TalkTalk now LLU on our exchange but no better speed?

And offering upto 24mb. checked with them and can only provide me with 3mb.

Just done a check on BT's site and they can offer upto 8mb and give me 3.84mb.

My borther can get upto 8mb from BT and get 6mb but with TT he gets 14.5mb.

Anyone know how he can double his speed by going to TT and mine stays the same even though we are both on the same exchange?

It depends on your line length. What is your attenuation? That is a guide to how long your line is.

he's closer, and close enough that ADSL2+ from Talk Talk gives a large speed increase.

You won't see a dramatic improvement from ADSL2/2+ due to line length, assuming your 3.8M is sensible for the line length and not due to some other problem.

The figures you are getting are educated guesses from the ISP systems.

If you can post your present stats, Bandwidth, attenuation and SNR people could be able to give you a better idea of what yoou will actually receive.

Here are my stats from my router.

Connection Speed 4000 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 48.0 db 25.0 db
Noise Margin 12.5 db 19 db

I am a novice so if someone can help explain what I am likely to get or not if that me the case

Unfortunately with a 3.5Km line, you can only expect around 5Mb.

Thanks for the quick reply. So it doesn't make much difference between LLU or non LLU or even upto 8mb or 20mb

I will only ever get 5mb?

Don't know which way BT have run the cable but 3.5km seems a massive distance as I can walk to the exchange in less than 2 minutes!!

Yes, that's how I understand it.
Lines generally follow main roads but do not cross obstructions like rivers and railway lines. Your best hope for increased speeds is FTTC.

That would explain a lot as we are close to a railway track.

Sorry but what is FTTC?

That's fibre to the cabinet. Fibre connection from the exchange to the green street cabinet and then VDSL2 from the cabinet to your home.
