Talk Talk LLU Port throttling?

[link to this post]

Hi

Thinking of joining and I read that p2p is throttled but I was wondering if anyone knows if any ports are.

The main ones im intrested in are 563 or 995

At best due to where I live I wouldnt expect to get more then 2.5meg anyway

Thanks in advance.

I have tried P2P in the past and have had both great speeds and very poor speeds, my advice is if you are thinking of using P2P regularly TalkTalk is not for you..

Thanks for the reply.

When you say p2p are you talking about torrents or say limewire?

All im mainly interested in is newgroups and a low gaming ping.

I like the look of the talktalk members site its just a shame you have to be an actual customer of talktalk before you can signup and post.

That is all i ever used it for, someone who uses newsgroups will be along shortly i would imagine. wink

My gaming pings are always rock steady and low (because TT restrict the use of P2P) wink

There is no throtteling on Newsgroups. Gaming pings for me are great too. If both of those are your main requirements then i would say yes.

I would however just say that i am pretty close to the exchange and connect at 21meg. I don't know what it would be like for people on longer lines.

I am approximately one mile from my exchange (straight line) and get -

Thanks again for the replies.

It actually sounds like talktalk will work out just well for me.

Lucky for me my old work place have broadband with them so im taking my computer down there later to run some tests before I make a final decision.

Any other opinions or suggestion's before I commit would be appreciated.

That's pretty good.

You can have a laugh at my current speeds if you want.

Jees that's not too good. Have you tried a filtered faceplate etc. That can sometimes improve both connection and speed.

Hi

Yes basically I have rewired the whole house and only have 1 socket in the house with the bell wire removed and a filtered faceplate fitted.

On top of that I have a adslnation XF-1e filter so I don't think there is really much else I can do.

My router is currently BT business hub 2700HGV as they apparently work well on long lines which I agree with as its the most stable router ive used and seems to be able to get a little bit extra out of my line.

As I seem to have a similar line connection to you it may help your decision if I give you some of my line results.

Ping Result

Speed Result

My router is a Netgear DG834GT
Firmware Version V1.02.16 - DGTeam Rev. 0848

Router Stats

My line distance is approx 4.2 Km from the exchange. My ping before was similar to yours now at around 37-40ms, but after asking to be moved to fastpath (switching interleaving off) I now get around 18-20ms. I play a bit of Bad Company 2 onlline currently and on UK servers rarely see people getting lower pings than me.

One thing to note is that if telephone support is necessary for you then TT is absolutely not worth it, but their talktalkmembers forum is pretty efficient.

Thanks for those stats.

You have a really nice ping there and good choice on the gaming front smile

You line attention is a bit lower than mine and most routers cant read above 63db so mine could actually be a lot worse then what its showing.

Your right in saying I here nothing but bad things about there phone support and hopefully I ill never need them but from what ive seen of the taltalk members forum they seem pretty efficent in trying to help sort out problems.
