Wireless Router Suggestions Sought

An elderly friend on Talk Talk is likely to be wanting to go wireless soon. He currently has a Huawei wired router.

Sam Knows says he's about 1.8km crow-flies distance from the exchange. Sam Knows suggests he can get c.5Mbps which would almost certainly be ample for his needs. I've no idea what hew currently gets but it's clearly satisfactory.

Anyway - any particular things to watch out for or avoid for a wireless router. FWIW I use a Netgear DG834GT and it seems pretty solid. What's the current Netgear equivalent?

Although a WAP would presumably work it seems they're as expensive as a new router.

I have a DG834Gv5, which I use wirelessly with my TalkTalk connection.

If your friend is out of contract he could phone the TT retention team and ask what they will give him to get him to stay with TT.

That's worth a shot even if he's still in contract. TT have been known to send out wireless routers to those still in contract free of charge and without penalty.

The current crop of TT routers aren't all that even if they are free.

The current equivalent to the GT is probably the DGN1000 or DGN2200. Although you can still get hold of a DGN2000 which was the direct replacement:

I have a DGN2000 on TT LLU and works great,bought it about 12 months ago as I didn't like the supplied Huawei HG520b.
