Tried a new router, filters, wired and I am still experiencing poor download speeds. I have gone from 10 + mbps to 0.5. I have experienced drops in connection in the past, once a day maybe, but for 8 months it has been pretty stable.
Some stats that might be useful:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15759 kbps 1020 kbps
Line Attenuation 25.5 db 11.8 db
Noise Margin 9.2 db 13.0 db
Yesterday I was told that my connection was refreshed and to wait 24 hrs to see if it made any difference which, as I expected, didn't. Tonight when I called through to tech support I received no joy and was told to call back on a mobile so the line could be checked, but that would cost an arm and a leg!
Is there anyone in the know who could offer some advice? Many thanks.

As a general rule if the sync is what you would expect normally, and noise margin is above 5dB, then the ADSL is not the issue and looking more at things like
DNS - slow for web pages to start appearing
File downloads slow - congestion, check how things perform at off peak times e.g. 2am to midday

Hi, thanks for the reply. Web pages load ok, and during off peak I still get the poor download speeds. It's odd, when I called TalkTalk they performed the automated line check and said there may be a problem with my line which could be resolved with a router restart (it didn't!). When I got through to support team they said there were no errors.

You are with a bad ISP - you need to check out the Which? Report on broadband providers. Which? list 4 to AVOID and TalkTalk is one of them.

TalkTalk have been fine, it's just a blip, I'm sure they'll resolve it. Since I've moved to them my download speed nearly doubled.
I've logged the issue on the TT members forum. Thank you.

HI Carly,
Glad to see you got this logged on the Members Forum
As were not a real time response system it will take the OCE a little time to reach your post. All suport posts are handled from oldest to newst comments, so bumping your thread increases reply time. As such if you sit tight an OCE will reach your issue and advise further on resolution.
Regards

I notice from your profile you're not with TalkTalk
Are you talking from personal experience or just jumping on a bandwagon ?

I love Which?
You all take note of what they say and stay away then i can continue to get cracking speeds and ultra low pings on my uncongested exchange, and i can keep phoning my family and friends free 24/7 and at the end of the month look at my bill and wonder how they can provide me with such a great service for £3 a month.

I'm with Orange who are also one of Which's ISPs to Avoid. I would not dispute anyone bring this up, so why can't you?
