What speed can I expect on this line

Posting this on behalf of my brother on the Coleraine exchange which is LLU for TalkTalk.

His router sync was originally restricted to 2mbs until I got him to complain to TalkTalk. It has now gone up to 4mbs. However there appears to be a lot of headroom with a 15dB SNR and 26dB line attenuation.
Do TalkTalk have a reputation for restricting the sync speed? I am suspicious as it has just doubled after he complained.

Give Kitz line speed calculator a try but remember as has been pointed out in similar threads here attn increases by about 3 dB with ADSL2+

I see that you are using ADSL2+ there is quite a lot of spare margin left on the downstream, and none on the upstream, which i would say is suspect, the router if you can call it that maybe mis reporting some of the values,(SNR) or there is an issue with the line itself or just of poor quality (upstream), my line has a slightly higher attenuation to yours 29db down &14.5db up on ADSL2+ with a target snr of 3db i get around 18-19mbit sync,(@ 3db tsnrm) and 1.4mbit up so theoretically the line in question should get a similar downstream sync if not better, and be able to get the full upstream sync that tt offer

I believe TT start your Down Sync at 4 Meg and gradually increase it during the training period.

His line should be capable of 17-18 Meg.

The talktalk forum people should be happy to lower the line to a 6dB target margin
