Move from ADSL to LLU - Line Stats

Hi

My move from plusnet adsl to talktalk llu has just completed (and may I say the way talktalk handled it every step of the way was faultless!)

Just wondered if someone could take a look at my stats and make sure I`m getting the speed I should be - many thanks.

Get the target noise margin reduced from default (12dB) to 6dB and you should see over 20Mbps. If unstable go back one step to 9dB. It's easiest via the members forum.

I was thinking of going the other way, migrating from TT LLU to Plusnet. What did you find wrong with Plusnet?

Nothing at all wrong with plusnet - very happy there for years.

However I had started going over my 60gb monthly allowance and also they couldnt offer llu speeds as talktalk are the only provider for that on my exchange.

Router syncs at 20268 kbps down and 969 kbps up.
SNR Margin (dB) is 5.9 down and up
Attenuation (dB) is 3.0 down and 2.5 up
Output Power (dBm) is 0.0 down and 9.3 up

Generally download between 17.5Mbps and 18.5 Mbps

Connection is very stable with minimal dropouts.

To TalkTalk Mark... can this be improved on?

I'm guessing that's a DSL-2680 or 2780 because the attenuation figures are the wrong way around, but even so you're still probably looking at less than 500 metres away by road.

Now that's Ethernet straight to the DSLAM.

Looks like a 6db profile, which is the fastest TT do, but I would have thought your sync would have been a bit more than that. your upload should deffo be hitting 1020 (1019 for fastpath) and the down should be able to squeeze out a bit more.

What's state is your internal wiring in, have you removed the ringwire?

If you have a Broadcom chip router, you could tweak the SNR yourself and hit the full 24Meg easily.

Router is a DSL-2740R.

Exchange is line of sight and I'm connected by overhead cables for the first 100 yards and then the cables go underground. After that the exchange is only another 150 yards but goodness knows where the cables actually go, though from the looks and positions of the BT cabling duct covers it takes the direct route

The poles were heightened a couple of years ago with the cables and connections boxes replaced and patched into the underground connection ducts.

Internal house wiring is about par for a bungalow built in 1935. The 'master' (actually the only socket) is an old BT style box and I use an external filter. All the extension cabling and sockets have been removed as has the ringwire. I use DECT phones and nothing else is connected to the phone system wiring, apart from obviously the base station.

I should have mentioned the download speeds I quoted were for up-to-date iMacs and MacBooks connected wirelessly. I have a creaky old Windows tower system hard wired to the router and that generally gets around 20.5Mbps download.
