I wondered why piratebay wasn't working wink

Have you tested the router direct into the test socket behind your BT socket faceplate?

For reference here's my router stats. I have higher attenuation (longer line probably) than you but much higher bandwidth. Your SNRM can be dropped from 12 to 6, but your stats seem to point to another issue that should be solved first:

Uptime: 0 days, 0:41:29
DSL Type: G.992.3 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 884 / 3,691
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.5 / 0.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 29.0 / 55.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.0 / 6.0
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / IFTN
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): NA / 26,088
CRC Errors (Up/Down): NA / 11
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 11

i have router connected to master socket as far as i know and was acheieving this speed from the beginning had the internet for a month now. Do you mean remove the faceplate and then connect the router to master socket i have not tried this, i achieve this speed on wireless and wired connection. also according to internet checks i am 2.5 miles away from the exchange

yes, if you have an NTE5 master socket, remove the faceplate and plug direct into the test socket behind. This should rule out home wiring from your enquiries

You can keep it in the test socket if you don't need the extensions connected.

you mean leave the faceplate off i did want to have the router downstairs but guess i will leave it in the test socket would this just mean that the faceplate needs changing and coluld their ossibly be anway to get any faster internet. it is now hitting 2mb which is better than 1.2mb but it says i can achieve 2.5mb.

You have an internal cabling fault. Either repair it yourself with help from these boards or use a competent person with experience of telephone wiring.
If you pester your ISP for a repair it will cost you £130 minimum and you probably still won't get it repaired.

If things are better at the test socket then try http://www.thinkbroadband.com/faq/sections/radsl.htm...

The wire on pin 3 can introduce noise and slow you down just as youve seen. If that is too much, then an alternate that will cost £5 to £10 is to fit an i-plate http://www.thinkbroadband.com/videos/iplate-installa...

i see your downstream attenuation has changed from 36 to 63, was that just a typo in the first post?

The next step would be to request a 6db SNRmargin, i think its called a 24FSNR6 profile. You can request via the talktalk member's forum I am lead to believe.

Leaving it in the test socket is fine, using a filter if you have a landline connected. This does disable any internal extensions though, so if you have these then you probably want a filtered faceplate and disconnect the ringwire (mentioned earlier)

edit: Looking at that profile the F might be for fastpath which could do more harm than good. The SNR6 thing is the main thing, but I'm guessing the member's forum OCE's know what to do

i never made a typo b4 as ive just copied and pasted my results.

I have left the faceplate off and have connected upto to test line which is giving me extra speed and ping test give reuslts of "A" which is good. When i took off the faceplate what ive seen wasnt very nice alot of dirt and wires are very old, i checked number 3 for the bell wire but it isnt orange at all as shown in link

i have removed bell wire and speed is showing up as 2.6mb on webpages i am getting 2.2mb.

My wiring is pre 1980 so is old wiring and colours are different to the usual images you see of the wires. Will be left to me to fix the wiring as i got no clue in whats what as i thought bt were responible for the wires the master socket is upstairs so how would i go about getting the wires changed

Getting BT to do the extension wiring may cost you over £100
If lifting the wire (no matter what colour) from pin 3 has helped, then no need to change much of anything else.

If you want further advice, best to get a clear picture of the wiring at both ends and then people can visually check it for you.

Old wiring in itself is not really a problem.

Does the external BT dropwire enter the property near this master socket?
