Talk Talk router query

I am asking on behalf of a friend of mine who is leaving Talk Talk after a couple of years due to the painfully slow broadband at the weekends and in the evenings mon-fri (due to peak demand I think)

When I was with O2 (I'm now with Sky) I had to send my router back in a pre-paid jiffy envelope or get charged £50

As the Talk Talk router is also branded (like the O2 one), I'm just wondering if it also has to be sent back or perhaps handed in at a Carphone Warehouse store ?

Orange routers are branded, on case and in GUI, but are not required to be returned; certainly as far as ordinary wireless routers are concerned, excepting perhaps the LiveBox.

I have only heard of O2/Be requiring return of routers, of the mainstream ISPs.
