I have created a dyndns account for cctv cameras and all is working internally but when i try to connect over the internet it just takes me to the routers login page? How do i make the router connect through to the cameras cctv pvr. It all worked fine with plusnet but that router had a tab saying port forward on? I have a talktalk 523a router and cant find port forwarding or do i change a different setting? any help appreciated!

Remember even once you have port forwarding setup to check it works, you need to use a device that is not using your local network, e.g. a friend or mobile phone (NOT using wifi).

Should help on the port forwarding configuration

unless you use it, it would be wise to turn off the WAN access to the router's web interface.
you could tor or maybe a proxy to test the cameras, or just a port tester to check your camera port (port80?) is open
http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ for instance

I haven't used IP cameras, but am pretty well versed in networking so maybe I can help.
Can you tell us how you connect to the camera on your network? do you use an app or a browser? do you type in an IP address or a name? do you add a port?
for instance
192.168.1.105 in browser address bar
or do you click on "camera 1" in a running program?
If you can give make/model of camera(s) I can look up the manual

Probably not got WAN access turned on, but simple if you type http://WANIP or domain into a machine on the LAN the usual thing for most routers is to show the routers web interface.
Hence to test port forwarding you really need to use a machine on another Internet connection.

If you can provide a screen shot of the settings you put into the port forwarding section of the router, then people might be able to spot your error.
Also what IPCam it is.

am thinking the IP cameras would use UDP, so the port checker I suggested wouldn't work.
Would that be a correct assumption ?

ahh I see now, the OP wasn't connecting "over the internet" in the first place I fell in the trap didn't I

Right here goes.......
This is what i have
http://www.mycablebox.co.uk/index.php?main_page=prod...
Im trying to access my cctv cameras pvr (not ip cameras) over internet from a dyndns account - xxxxxxxxx.dyndns-remote.com
its fine when on my own wireless network 192.168.1.90
But Im just not sure why
1. IP address is not updating automatically on dyndns account using cctv to do it?
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B-W61sj9neA4anhlaTl...
does anyone know what to type into my router ddns to do this instead to get ip address to update (DDNS) Wont let me continue without entering a Domain?
DYNDNS.ORG
Host: xxxxxxxx.dyndns-remote.com
Domain:
Username: i know
Password: i know
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B-W61sj9neA4M0JRTHF...
2. when i type in xxxxxxxx.dyndns-remote.com from work internet it just brings up my router login page?
3. I have done port mapping on router not sure if i needed to or if its right?

Why are you configuring the dyndns on the router and the cctv box? Also no need to configure that to test the port forwarding, as you can just use your dynamic ip address from home.
It is possible that by setting up the dyndns in the router you are automatically opening up its Web interface to the internet, and as you have port 80 running for router AND CCTV on the single IP address the router probably wins.
So
1. Enable 80 external to port 80 internal
2. Enable port 9000 to port 9000 internal
3. Try this over internet using just the external IP address
4. Once that is working
5. Try setting up the dyndns in the CCTV box, after turning it off on the router

If your HG523 is anything like my HG533, and the user interface is pretty much the same, you should be entering xxxxxxxx as the host and dyndns-remote.com as the domain. That should get your DynDNS update working properly at least.
As far as port forwarding goes, I think you should probably remove the "remote host" field entirely and leave it blank. With the local IP you have in there at present, I think it will cause problems. The "remote host" field is there to only allow access via a specific remote IP address (e.g. the IP address of your computer at work), in case you do not want open it up to the world - you shouldn't be putting the router IP address in their (of course, the router knows its own IP address).

your DNS setting in the PVR is wrong, says 192.162.1.1 or something similar. This could be causing the dyndns not to update.
Also, as futura says the remote host should be "all" hosts so either blank or maybe 0.0.0.0 depending on the firmware
