Poor broadband speeds on ADSL2+

Hi All,
I have been with TalkTalk for over a year and typically get about 5Mbit download on a 6db SNR connection over ADSL2+. However my line seems to be quite unstable and i get frequent (1-2 a day) disconnects.
I have looked at my router stats (D-Link DSL-2680) and it says that my line is 38dB attenuation but from reading on the forums my sync speed should be much higher.

Can anyone advise on what the problem might be?

Have you also grabbed stats from the test socket, to see if extension wiring is impacting sync speed

Attenuations should be the same, what about the rest of the stats?

Looks like something is knocking your SNR down. Sync speed is defo lower that it should be for your attenuation.

Now you say the attenuation is similar when connected to the test socket, But what was the attenuation?

The attenuation is typically 1-2dB lower when plugged directly into the master socket. I dont have the other stats to hand at the mo so will have to plug my router into the master socket again.

Is there anything in my current stats that are pointing to an issue?

Compared to the below you're not getting a good speed for the attenuation, especially upstream Full stats from test socket would help, also try it in ADSL2 and G.dmt modes via http://192.168.1.1/adslcfg.html to see if they do better (unlikely, but worth a try).

Difficult to call. I know, from experience, TT do not like customers to be on adsl2. I had to move to facilitate.
Interesting in what BT tester shows. http://www.speedtest.btwholesale.com/. Complete test then "further diagnostics" button . Min - Max Up and down and your line info.
Maybe the low snr is causing disconnects.
For your line, the speeds are more like adslmax business than adsl2
Would expect to see 10 down and 1 up on your attenuation.

not quite sure what you mean about TT not "liking" ADSL2. Do you mean as a company they manipulate the exchange hardware to reject that type of modulation? Or that TTs MSANs are less capable of ADSL2 modulation than other ISPs hardware?

edit: am on a long line myself, and g.dmt is normally what mode my routers settle at (3.5mbit/1mbit ish) so am not disagreeing as such, just wondering what you mean

Hi,

Just tried the Bt speed test but it says that the test cant currently be performed. One thing to note is that my SNR is currently set to 6dB (i requested this from TT). Sometimes the SNR can drop to 2dB during peak times (evenings) etc.
Do you think my issue could be that I have a noisy line? I live on the edge of a village on a street with about 25 houses. Ita fairly new development and Im wondering if BT made a bit of a hash job with the quality of the connections etc when they installed the cabling.
