Tiscali email dead

Customer was having issues with his tiscali email.
Contacted TalkTalk and they could not help, even suggested he contact M$, but fortunately gave him a dud number.

Surprise #1
Logged into webmail as {UserName}@tiscali.co.uk to confirm account details correct.
First page said "Welcome [email protected]"
Who the heck is Philp Dexter"? Not my customer ! Not even a tiscali email address !
Fixed this, then...

Surprise #2
Mail sent to {UserName}@tiscali.co.uk bounces with a message :-

The following message to <[email protected]> was undeliverable.
The reason for the problem:
5.3.0 - Other mail system problem 554-"delivery error: dd This user doesn't have a ymail.com account ([email protected]) [-5] - mta1483.mail.bf1.yahoo.com"

How the heck is mail to my customer's tiscali email address being routed to [email protected] ????
Looking at the headers of the bounced message only shows servers in as *.opaltelecom.net, which is TalkTalk's business brand.

2 x my Tiscali mailboxes work with POP3, SMTP, Webmail send & receive.

Must be something wrong with your client's mailbox.

Thanks for checking.

I suspected as much. He was on the phone to TT for hours and has got nowhere,
Obviously this issue is not on any "script".

When I left him last night he was resolved to leave TT.
The only problem I could predict was that when they try to send the MAC to his tiscali email address it will go into the bit bucket in the cloud.

Doesn't he have a TT mailbox to go with his TT BB? Tiscali mailboxes predated BB and are never (yet) purged.

Not sure whether he has TT mailbox as he is a migrated Tiscali user. I will have to cross that bridge when I need to with him.

PS: Should have said earlier, that I suspected the email issue was isolated to him, otherwise there would have been a flood of complaints from other users.

They may not be alive for long. I was with talktalk after they had taken over tiscali, who had taken over pipex, who had taken over toucan. I left talktalk after they surcharged me for sending a paper statement because my email address was no longer live. The email address was a toucan one which they had ceased without telling me.
