I was on o2, so got migrated to Sky. Since then I have found I get lower sync (~5mb vs consistent 7-8mb on o2). This coupled with the price hike is making me think of switching
Talk Talk is the cheapest I can see, but was wondering what people's user experience is.
I am mainly a weekday evening & weekends user, so a consistent decent speed is important to me then.
Appreciate all the variables, but would welcome user comments from others who have switched.
Thanks

I've been with TalkTalk since Sept 2010 and very happy with the service and speeds. I'm fairly close to the exchange so get a sync of ~18 meg with actual speedtests ~16 meg day and night. Customer support via phone is pants but for any issues the TT forum (uk based) are very good. I'm on the Plus package (no tv) and for £5.75 pm (+ value line rental), i get unlimited broadband, unlimited landline/0870/0845 calls, 500 mins pm overseas calls..... an absolute bargain!!

Been with TT since Aug 2012 and things have been good. No slowdowns at peak times.
Has been a few times when the connection has gone slow or down due to a fault TT end but always fixed within a few hours.
You can get unlimited BB from around £18 a month so not a bad price.
I'm currently paying £15.40 line rental + £15.50 for Plus TV
TalkTalk 24Mb
Current Line Status
Connection Speed 24272 Kbps 1019 Kbps
Line Attenuation 14.5 dB 5.5 dB
Noise Margin 0.3 dB 11.8 dB

£15.40 + £5.75 = £21.15
although I think He might have paid his line rental in full for 1 year to get money off.
So he might just be paying the £5.75 per month.
Normal Line Rental £15.40 * 12 = £184.80 - Value Line Rental £126.
If you was to average that over a year that would be £10.50 + £5.75 = £16.25
So a saving of £58.80 a year if you pay 1 years line rental in one go.

Sadly those on EO lines are excluded from these kind of deals.

EO lines might exclude someone from FTTC, but why would it exclude someone from LLU?

Try and check out TTs own customer forum, as that is where your customer service will come from, the telephone support is useless, in the two years i was with them i had two telephone faults and both had to done through the forum, luckily both faults involved the landline going down but the internet staying up, customer service couldn't get in touch despite me giving them my mobile number, as the they said they phoned me but got the unobtainable, but one post on the forum it was fixed.

I paid £114 12 months line rental in advance last Sept so in total i'm paying £15.25 pm ( £9.50 + £5.75). However you get a further 15% off your monthly bill (exc line rental) if you pay within 24 hrs of receiving your bill email. You click on 'speedy discount' link in your bill email.

Not at all.
EO lines are only affected by FTTC connections. Not ADSL conections

my connection is faultless but telephone support is shockingly bad so use the forum , if that does not suit , don't come to talktalk .
to be honest the telephone side of things has had faults but never the broadband side , it just works and works well , i have been with TalkTalk for 5 years now .
I use Netflix and download my games digitally and must eat allot of bandwidth a month , without any issues .
There was a real problem with trolls on this forum ( still the odd one pops up ) as TalkTalk connections where very bad in the early days but 5 years in , i know that is in the past it just took a while for other to realise what a bargain TalkTalk is , if you can deal with the forum support .

over the last 14 years I've had a wide variety of broadband technologies/companies.
Parents have had TalkTalk since their inception, and the connection has definitely evolved over the years.
Initially not LLU, had a fixed speed product to give stability (2272 down) and later had LLU but the USB modem wouldn't connect (connection to exchange was fine) at peak times (proper router solved this).
Since 2011 this as been my broadband also.
was a long line giving 3.5/1.0 maximum, with some slowdowns at 6pm and on Sundays.
Currently enjoying medium fibre (FTTC) for
((£15.50/2)-£2) = £5.75 for "broadband and anytime calls"
+£5 for medium fibre (for 12 months)
+£9.50 line rental
so now have a 37/2 connection for about £21 a month all in

I jumped ship from Be 8 months ago and have found the Talktalk service is really good. They were also very good in dealing with openreach providing you speak with the UK team. After a botched migration by Openreach they not only got this sorted but got a long standing fault on the line from my home to the exchange sorted.

As long as you have no line faults and TalkTalk's equipment isn't congested in your area, their network should be as stable as any.
Support is basic so if that bothers you Plusnet might be an alternative to consider.
