Hi,
After reading a post on the thinkbroadband home page about their price rises http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/6356-talktalk-ann... I have a few questions that I would like clarifying.
1. Does this price rise apply to fibre medium?
2. If yes, can I leave without having to pay the contract termination fee and and remaining months bill?
The reason I ask is that the prices are getting out of what I would like to pay, its bad enough as it is.
Thanks

If you signed up for fibre medium plus Simply Broadband, i.e. £10 + £2.50 a month, then it will change to £13.50 total per month
Letters giving the 30 day notice will be sent out around the 27th

Thanks,
I have been with TalkTalk since October 2010 so I have the essentials. I then signed up for fibre last year so it added £10 on.

On the old essentials not sure. Have checked the price notification page.
Btw if on 2Mbps upload that speedtest is wrong

i'm on £5.75 for Broadband and unlimited calls (£(15.50/2)-2)
plus £5 for half price medium fibre.
line rental was paid in advance,
Any idea what they might add to my bill?

Ok and it glitched a bit when I did it, when I usually test I get around 1.85 -1.9mbps upload.

Nope they don't list the old Plus package before the TV was added.
http://sales.talktalk.co.uk/pricing/info/pricing-not...
But would be preparing for 55p line rental and £1 extra on the broadband. The £3 rise on PlusTV is more because of the extra channels

I don't really know what the package name is, felt like it was mangled together (last September) by Retentions to make a good deal.

Has anyone received the TalkTalk letter yet? As I haven't.

So they could not do broadband for such a low price, what a surprise. No doubt it will go up again soon, when they realise they are doing it too cheap or they cut their service down to a even lower level if that is possible.

Line rental up a few pence, £3.50 increase on my TV package but Sky 1, Sky Sports News, Sky Living and Sky Arts will be included as part of the package. The £5 a month boost to mobile networks from your landline is now unlimited instead of capped at 1000 minutes a month. Anytime call bundle down 50p a month, so overall still a very good deal.

Unlimited mobile is a gimmick, how many people will use more than a thousand minutes a month? Talk Talk knows full well that it looks good and people will be sucked into it. But that is the way businesses work.
But what about the people who did not want to pay the extra for their TV and get the extra channels? As bad as Sky to be honest, when they put all their mixes into two packages.
Line rental is way to high as it is already, not just with Talk Tallk, but for most telecom companies. £15 a month or more just to have a phone line is a rip of.

Unlimited mobile is not a gimmick at all if you want to use your landline to call mobile phones. My son phones his friends a lot, I phone friends, my wife calls mobiles extensively to keep in touch with her teams. I doubt we use more than 1000 minutes a month but I'd think many families with two or three teenage children do and will welcome the unlimited option...for a fiver a month its as cheap as chips. I also pay for the International free calls which is fantastic value when like me, you have friends all over the globe.
Line rental too high? Not really, I pay yearly so get discount and also get 15% discount paying my bill within 24 hours of it being issued, again great value. The thing is Adrian, no line to the house no broadband, simple as that. No profit then no investment into the infrastructure, these companies are not charities. I know your on wireless broadband (as you've mentioned so often here and elsewhere) and you pay much the same for your provider as you would paying for a much faster FTTC connection and thats great, its your choice. I looked at the provider you picked to use and IMHO it offers a slow and expensive service I would only contemplate using as a real last resort but I don't criticise them...I don't use them.

It is a gimmick, they know full well that most people will not come close to using that fiver for their calls and it it looks so good on paper and in their adverts.
International calls is fine if you use them, i phone to the U.S a couple of times a month, but we used to use Skype a lot, until she decided to get VOIP by the same provider I use, now it is better quality than skype and still free, plus I don't need to have the computer on to use it.

What is great value about paying a sky high price for a bit of cable? Even with your discount it is still too much.
I was still getting a ok price on line rental with first telecom without having to pay it all at once, £10 a month, which was ok for me, weekend calls only, but since I never used the landline it was not a large problem.
But I got fed up of paying for something I did not use.

you are right these companies are not charities and once we get to about 2 or 3 large telecom companies after knocking out the smaller ones there will be little competition and we will end up with the same cartel system as we have with energy. So when you have less choice, you watch Talk Talk, BT and Sky hike their prices even more. Of cause having to use BT for the lines don't help as they can up whole sale prices to what ever they want and when ever they want.
How often have line rental gone up int he last couple of years, how often have other prices gone up on BT, Tallk Talk and maybe sky over the last couple of years?
Mine have not gone up, the only time is when I went for a faster speed. why pay for something I don't use, I may was well give a local company the money as long as they offer me the service I need.
i don't need 20Mb/s speed, which is the fastest i would get here, I don't want the hassle i had with naff phone lines and constant line problems. My broadband sometimes get a bit slower than I like , but only twice in the two years have I not been able to use it because of failure and both times it was sorted out quickly.
i criticise Talk Talk as i have had dealings with them and to be honest, the further I stay away from the company the happier i am. Sadly Bt is no better.

I don't criticise TT because I've had superb service off them as have family and friends who use them, if they messed with me I'd dump them. Your just biting off your nose to spoil your face by not using a better service for about the same price. All the problems you and your 'mates' have make you a really unlucky person with a lot of unlucky mates. You seem to have a mate to reinforce any thread you post on to back up your view.

I agree with Bob, don't see why people dislike TalkTalk, I have been with them for 4 years and its been brilliant can't fault it. Anyway getting to my second point has anyone received the 30 cancellation letter?

Mates of Mates and somebody you met down the pub and a long held , unfounded hate of TalkTalk .
Its like s seasonal thing with you , and i would of thought by now you would realise your idea of what being a TalkTalk customer is like and the reality are a long way apart .
First thing i did when moving from a market 1 exchange to a TalkTallk enabled exchange was move to TalkTalk and spend the money i saved on my ever increasing electricity bill .
To me and probably everyone else , everything is going up in price to include TalkTalk .
B.T. are no better than TalkTalk but TalkTalk are cheaper , I know , i have been with both and recently .

So your in this forum because...?
TalkTalk 24Mb
Current Line Status
Connection Speed 24272 Kbps 1019 Kbps
Line Attenuation 14.5 dB 5.5 dB
Noise Margin 0.3 dB 11.8 dB

Just bear in mind that Openreach charge roughly £105 per year (+vat) wholesale charge to TT and others for line rental. So the telecoms company only make about £45 person (ex vat), by the time they pay other costs out of this they really do not make much profit out of line rental per customer.
I am led to believe, the profit per customer from line rental actually only amounts to a couple of quid per year for the telcos

£96.37 + vat (from May) according to the table below, if I read it right.

AFAIK that's all Talktalk and Sky have to pay Openreach for MPF rental, so putting both phone and broadband over an MPF line is quite cost effective, relative to SMPF.

Yes, I have to agree with you. I also took my figure from one of these, though a slightly different one date last year. your is obviously more upto date as the one I looked at gave the price, then (forecast) next to it. sorry about that.

Openreach are bumping the MPF rental up by quite a bit next month. Possibly because they are having to fix a lot of faults on the ageing copper network (I had one last year).
