Is my phone line dead early?

[link to this post]

Supposed to be switching from TalkTalk Fibre to BT Infinity on Monday 8th, everything with regards to BT has gone according to plan so far - they confirmed we can keep our current number, Home Hub 5 is with us etc.

However... Today we were told by a relative that they could not reach our landline number. Naturally we checked if we could make calls, and although we have a dial tone, we are getting a busy tone as soon as we try and dial a number.

We have tried an old BT wired phone as well as our Panasonic cordless phones, both with the same result.

We have tried the test socket, no difference.

I tried calling my mobile phone as well as 1471 and 1571, all resulted in a busy tone.

Can anyone help in shedding some light on the situation?

17070 gave a number that wasn't ours. Tried a ringback test, which was successful. I guess TalkTalk just have their knickers in a TwistTwist and Openreach will switch us over to BT on Monday.

Since TalkTalk doesn't have a ringback test on 17070, it would suggest Openreach physically moved you over to WLR3 already.

Although with a wrong number, might be coincidental and a fault (crossed line).

Could this be like a PAC situation, where a temporary number is assigned on WLR3 until migration day and the port-in request completes?

It's certainly possible... just not something you'd normally see.

Mobiles are a little different in that they are on different SIMs, whereas when porting a land line, one takes the place of the other on the switch date as they are usually over the same copper unlike a SIM which would change during a port.
