Hi,
I just went live yesterday and the speeds were matching what I was getting at BT but as soon as peak time hit the speeds went to as low as 5meg when I am sync'd at 63meg.. whilst I understand to expect speed drops during peak hours this is shocking for what I pay for..
I have tried turning the router off to no avail and tried all the other troubleshooting guides but I know its congestion!!
I am on the Drumchapel (WSDRU) Exchange

Tried other tests to ensure its not the douglas server rather than the service?
Or outs http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html which has lots of spare capacity

Yes tried a few others as well as TBB and that peaked at 26 then fell away..
I also have a server in France and it was only getting 400kbs

TalkTalk in Sunny Drumchapel = Congestion.
I found Virgin Media had no congestion in the area.
But TalkTalk was for sure the worst ISP in the Drum!

How did you get out of contract or did you live with it until you could move?
|
|
Think you'll probably have to wait until they have a mid-contract price rise and give you the 30 day penalty free window to move - that's how I left.
EDIT:
You could try complaining about congestion on the TalkTalk forums, their staff will probably reply and state whether they are going to do anything.

You know I was thinking about doing that when the price rises come but wasn't sure if there was a minimum amount of months I had to be with talktalk before it applied?

A price rise allows you to leave penalty free regardless of how long you are into your minimum term.

Really? Thanks for the information

The only exception is if you are told, at the time you took out the contract, that a price rise was imminent. Things like:
Line rental: £15.99*
* £16.99 from 1 October 2015

Dont recall anything of the sort when I called to place my order

OP, post your issue on TT forums and if the OCE's acknowledge that there are TT backhaul issues in your exchange and upgrades are on the way, then it might be a good idea to ask for some sort of compensation, eg 6 months half price BB or even free

Only compensation fit would be to let me leave penalty free

How long have you been with TalkTalk now?
WBC 3200/800
FTTC 63500/19999
FTTN 57344/3170

I would cancel under the cooling off period then!
WBC PENDING CEASE

FTTN 57344/3170

I tried but according to talktalk it's cooling off period starts when I place the order so when the service goes active it's been and gone

I have took this issue up with talktalk for days now and finally a tech support rep said its probably congestion you are suffering as the "server is full" his words.. They are getting Openreach to have a look at it in the exchange alegidly
|
|
I would honestly just email the CEO...

Out of curiosity what does the 'service centre' say for your exchange when you go here?

Nothing but after sending the CEO an email I have made progress according to the guy who is dealing with my case said my exchange is on the list and was supposed to be fixed on 3rd of august but wasnt so waiting on a call back on monday to see the revised date
But the bottom line is I have congestion and that is verified

Looks like you'll be able to leave penalty free due to price rises - http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2015/08/uk-isp-...

Yea I seen that yesterday thanks tho spud

Just be aware that the grass isn't always greener on the other side... All mainstream ISPs can & do suffer from exchange congestion, it can take weeks/months to add extra backhaul capacity (its not as simple as just flicking a switch).

I'm going back to BT, talktalk has been a bad experience and I don't think you would be happy with going down to 5meg in peak times if not lower and to my server in France 200kbs
|
|
And talktalk are saying the exchange isn't congested, if they said it was and was due to be upgraded fine but it's not so I'm off
|
|
Got in tonight and went to do a speedtest and seen that my ip has changed and now showing as the tiscali network and my speeds are full even at this time of night..
Have I been rerouted via a less congested network?
