VDSL 1.8Mbps Download

Hi all.
I'm at my mums house and she is only getting 1.8Mbps download speeds. We've rebooted the router. Changed the cable that connects to the nte. Turned off the 1 cordless phone. All she has is a master socket and a metre of cable connecting the nte to the TT HG635 Super router.

I called support who added the latest firmware to the router yesterday. Unfortunately I cannot stay at her home for too long to assist them.

The vdsl stats are good. We also changed the wireless channels yesterday. The one thing we cannot do is go to the bt test socket as it does not have one and we also do not have a computer to plug into it. We only have iPads and smartphones.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions.
All speedstests only go to 1.8Mbps down. Up can reach 5Mbps.

You need a device that connects via Ethernet to rule out local wireless issues.

Line is connecting at 28.275 Mbps on downstream side and upload is giving results in line with its connection speed, so the VDSL2 itself is probably OK, but some form of bottle neck elsewhere.

It is possible there is something downloading a massive amount all the time and you are not aware, and it might be possible to see if this is the case from a speed test at http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest If this is the case the two download tests are going to give different results and/or the Analysis button at the end will show the latency when idle is very similar to the latency when the test was downloading data.

Brightsparks came out today.
The changed the router and no change.
The guy went ahead and changed the nte for testing purposes (at my request) and it worked correctly.
I was lucky to have someone come out and be willing to rule out all the kit at my mums house.
Thank you brightsparks for being flexible and willing to rule out everything at the customer premises.

I did forget to mention it was a non standard nte in my original post.

Like many other TalkTalk customers I have found the TT Brightsparks team to be great and without their help I know I would not have got Openreach to sort out the enumerious problems with my telephone line.

It was a LJU 4/1A twin port faceplate.
It had two ports both with capacitors. Both ports had jumper wire connecting them to each other, so both ports could be used. The socket has been there since my mum moved in back in 2000. The fault has only occurred recently. Looking at the socket there isn't any corrosion or damage, it looks brand new still.

I was actually quite lucky the guy replaced the nte. He wasn't going to replace it, he said they can only replace like for like. Once he saw the fault was fixed, he was kind enough to leave a standard nte5a in its place.
