SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO PROGRESS THIS

I have an E.O. line of approx 4.2Kms according to OR tech. My speed has been capped by T.T's DLM to 1024Kbps.

I am using one of my trusty 2WIRE 2700HG-B routers. It is showing a downstream atten. of 70dB. The downstream S.N.R.M varies between 12dB & 8dB.

I have had two visits by OR, a new filtered faceplate fitted, no extensions, and a pair swap.

Both visits confirm that there is no fault showing.

Is there anyway I could improve the situation? Re. poor speed?

4.2km sounds wrong...70dB is more like 5.5 to 6km of copper

To improve you need to go somewhere that will let you either be in control of the DLM yourself or the service has no DLM.

Was told many years ago that it was >6Kms.

How do I find an ISP, that does not use DLM?

Assuming you're on TT LLU, have you actually asked their forum OCEs to turn off DLM on your line? I know this could be done previously but this may have changed in recent times.

Otherwise moving to a TT reseller such as AAISP and Xilo might be your best bet as they don't use DLM on TT lines. AAISP can also set a 3db noise margin on TT lines to squeeze every last bit of speed from your line.

Yes, I have a pending post on the TT forum now. All that is offered is another visit from OR with the usual warning of possible charges.

As far as I know, they refuse to turn off DLM,usually stating it is out of their control.

Have you tried a newer broadcom router/modem...a zyxel VMG8924-B10A for example....you can set your own target SNMR; this may only give you an approx 1 Mbps increase in sync.

With the zyxel and the broadcom chipset you can run monitoring software http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,21323.0.html for example.

My thoughts exactly, 4km isn�t/shouldn�t equate to 70db attenuation.

Unfortunately, lowering the SNRM brings a huge increase in errors. DLM sees this and lowers the speed.

The factors involved here appear to be, the poor quality of the line (possible aluminium), all my neighbours have a similar poor line, plus the added problem of the DLM.

I used to be on a fixed 6dB SNRM, and synched at circa 1600kbps.

I now believe that I am pushing them a little further.

"Unfortunately we are unable to deactivate DLM or change the line profile, apologies for this.
I can raise this as a complaint and a Complaints Manager can then look into this further. Would you like me to arrange this?"
