Speed Oddity

Some months ago I upgraded my router from the awful TT one to a Netgear Nighthawk X4S D7800.

I immediately saw a massive improvement in stability, whereas before, the connection was dropping 5+ times a day, it seems monthly now.

Additionally, my speeds went from around 20Mbs to 30Mbs with a stable connection.

I am now lucky if it hits 18Mbs.

Could this be throttling from TT? I would not have thought it would be contention since I would still expect to connect at the higher speed just not reach them.

Talktalk don't throttle in any way.

Posting detailed stats from the modem would likely give the answer, or a good indication.

Are you always getting a lag delay before the second download test starts?

The single thread test is less affected by this, so there may be a DNS lookup issue. Or router is buffering massively before throwing the data at the PC, hence the spike and subsequent tail off towards the 12-13 Mbps region

Give the new router a restart and see if things improve.

I used to have the HG633 super router and as i was having speed issues i asked if i could try the new D-link router on the support forum they sent me one a few days later and i found the D-Link much better it may be worth asking.

The downstream SNR is higher than the default 6db, this is costing you sync speed.

More importantly, why has DLM capped it down ? It�s seen instability somehow.

The irony is, having installed the latest firmware and rebooted, I am no longer able to attain anything above 1.6MBs

Is that the new router they have brought out?
