Restricted account - Slow BB

[link to this post]

http://www.speedtest.net/result/7826952654

For the first time I can think of, I am having an issue with TT.

Last week my speed dropped from 75mbps to around 30-35mbps. I also found I hade no dial tone.

After reporting this it was fixed the next day and i had a dial tone but still slow BB.

When logging into my TT account there was a message in red at the top of the page telling me that a service restriction is in place on my account as I had a balance due. I did not. And after talking to TT Support they confirmed this and that I am not restricted.

I use a BT Modem and a TP Link Archer C60 with OpenWRT installed and was asked to use the TT router instead to check if the slow speed persisted.

So I dug it out and set it up. And to my surprise my speed was back to 75mbps again.

It was short lived as today its back to what you see in the link at the top... 35mbps.

II am sure this must have something to do with that service restriction message but TT support insist that all is fine in that regard.

I talked to another person on support live chat tonight to say my speeds are slow again.

All they did was tell me that there is a "callback" booked for the 5th to see if my issues have been fixed and wont do anything!

Wow just wow.

Anyone got any suggestions? I am planning to call them next and speak to them over the phone vs online chat.

I am so tempted to just order BB from somewhere else like Vodafone (I have a mobile contract with them so get some money off)

That's a speedtest. What are your router stats with it (not the ones in your sig.)?

My thoughts too X-Ray, that the profile has been capped by by DLM due to the no dial tone fault.

However this doesn’t excuse their pants customer service though.

My line stats are about the same as they have always been. DLM stepping in does not explain the brief day my speed was back to normal with the TT Router does it?

No, that doesn't tally with nor explain a speedtest of 35 Meg, which the DLM has no hand in. The issue lies elsewhere.

Thats what I am trying to find out. TalkTalk don't seem to see an issue with the line.

As I said my speed went back to 75mb when I switched router but dropped to 30 again the next day. I tried switching back to my OR modem again and still stuck at 30mb.

At this point the issue is unknown BUT I am still betting my money on this "Service Restriction" message despite TT telling me its wrong.

Little faster this evening but not by much.

Going to go though all the stats from DSLStats and see if there is something hinky I can see that might be causing an issue.

I am more inclined to say this is a manifestation of the previous line fault... You had no dial-tone.

Likely openreach need to fix something else. I have seen your posts on the talktalk forums, so I am hopeful they will get this resolved for you.

I sure hope so. I'm off work for a week and being stuck at 30mb when trying to download games to play with friends is taking 3 times longer. Not to mention the other issues with 3 people all using the net at the same time most of the time.

All seems to be back to normal now but the "Service restriction" message is still there.

Happening again. Well this is the 4th time now actually.

I leave the modem off for about 15-20 mins and the speed will go back to normal (Sync speed remains the same) Though upload speed seems unaffected this time round. 30-35Mb down 15Mb up.

TT cant explain it at all and I'm at the end of my tether now.

I would just leave but who's to say its TT that's actually at fault and not something else but maybe a new provider would be able to DO something.

Line has been rock solid since I got it and the past few months have just gone to heck.

Seems quite likely changing ISP will resolve. If not, perhaps a new ISP will be better at raising a fault.

If when the speed drops the line remains in sync at the same level as before then the issue is not with the copper line.
It's either in your home, or on Talktalks part of the network.

Are your speed tests being done over wireless or wired?
If wireless you must try a wired test to rule out the wireless signal.

If they are wired it's more than likely a Talktalk issue, and I wish you good luck getting in touch with someone technical that can help you.
