Cease on Talktalk account-should leave or remove.

[link to this post]

Hi again folks,

Just signed up to BT for a 500 down package Special offer £30.99 coming from Talktalk, separate thread below tells the story.

Talktalk put a cease on my account earlier today to recorder as a new customer, but as an existing customer I would have had to pay new customer prices, so decided just to get this painful episode over with and leave them.

Bt Rep says it doesn't matter if Talktalk have cease on account and say it could be easier this way, would just like any advice on getting Talktalk to remove it or not?

Many Thanks
Joe

If you're trying to do a migration from 1 provider to another then it's highly recommended that you don't contact your existing provider at all.

Your existing provider placing a cease on the line can (and usually does) block your migration to your new provider.

My advice would be to get Talktalk to cancel the cease if possible.

Thanks for reply,

Well I have already contacted Talktalk, as they often bill people even after they move.
I have ordered full fibre without a landline with BT, Talktalk do ask for 30 days notice, so they have told me that my last live date with them will be 10 Nov.

Hopefully I will be with BT before that date.

A bit of a nightmare with Talktalk these past few months so glad to be leaving.

This is the deal with BT.

The 30 days notice is only for terminating/ceasing a line, in which case you need to contact Talktalk.
No such notice is required if you are migrating.

There might be a cease charge for xDSL (?) from TT. Hopefully the BT retail broadband only FTTP service can be installed/activated in the time frame that the OP mentions. Advice from a reputable ISP, that I got the other day, was to potentially retain and overlap a xDSL connection with a separate FTTP connection for a month or so just in case there are any problematic issues with the installation/activation of a FTTP broadband only product on a particular date.

Obviously this would mean out of contract pricing for the TT service for a while but an overlap of xDSL and FTTP might be prudent in certain circumstances and then put a cease on xDSL once the FTTP service is up and running.

£31 for those connection speeds looks good to me but what will the price be 24 months later? Another £10 a month or more?

Thanks for replies.

I actually have the FTTP installed by Talktalk a few years ago on a trial while leaving the old fibre 65 running in case I wanted to go back to it, and paying for the old package which only shows in my account. The FTTP trial was a 110 mbits package

When I decided to upgrade officially to their future fibre 150 it created a whole host of problems, not able to do it and not even able to change to the new package from old on my account.

Dropped calls, being told different things, and they seem now to be using VOIP for customer service which is creating a huge delay on the line. Long thread about all that underneath.

They finally wanted me to re-order as a new customer to try to sort the problems but no guarantee that would work and new customer prices as well.

Hopefully things will be better with BT, I do realise they increase price each March by CPI + 3.9 %
but even so, I just have had it with Talktalk.

I did take out a sim only deal as well with the package, Unlimited voice and text + 20 gb data total for broadband +mobile £39.99 a month. I will be losing the landline hence the mobile contract.

Just had a look at your other thread where in simple terms it seems you are paying for FTTC according to your account but the broadband is over FTTP on a trial basis. I'm a little confused but is the FTTC VDSL broadband still active on your line?

I went on the trial In feb 2020, they kept the dsl just in case I wanted to go back to it., Voice through old master socket as well.

Obviously I used the FTTP these past few years, I think they have disconnected the DSL as it no longer works except for llandline.

I have spent in excess of 20 hours on phone with Talktalk, one of their systems I believe the Order Management System was saying the new order of Future Fibre 150 was live, whereas their other systems were saying the order was cancelled.

So the average download from trial iFTTP is 106mbits and the connection seems stable.

I think being on that trial has probably helped to mess things up, and they seemed totally unable to upgrade me to any official packages.

A lot of their departments seem to be using VOIP with a huge delay on line when contacting them.

So it looks like they have ceased the DSL on your line but you call still make and receive calls using a phone connected to the NTE5 master socket. Hence your current TalkTalk package appears to be full fibre (FTTP) broadband and analogue voice over copper.

Hopefully BT retail can manage the transfer of the full fibre broadband based on your address and am I correct in saying that there is some uncertainty with regard to retaining your landline and phone number?
