Move from FTTC to FTTP.

I have been with TT approximately 15 years and in that time i have had few issues I moved onto FTTC a few years ago and i have always had great speeds and a rock steady connection, after a very long wait FTTP is finally here and with 3 heavy users in the house we have decided its time to switch.

I set my switch from FTTC to FTTP up using online chat as i have read it can take a while on the phone it did take a while to go through all the safety questions etc but it didn't bother me as i carried on using the PC as the order progressed, i now have a date for the engineer visit and fingers crossed it'll all go without issue, my next door neighbour recently had FTTP installed and as the pole is quite close to our houses he said it didn't take long.

I have the 150 package which is £29.95 fixed for 24 month - 150 Mbps.

TT emailed me shortly after the order to say they would send me a new modem i have now received an email saying it may not be delivered before the time slot i have been given for FTTP install is this normal?

Will the engineers set everything up, test it then its simply a case of me setting the new modem up when it arrives?

Talk Talk use more than one network, so is the service over Openreach FTTP or an alternative network ?

If it’s Openreach FTTP, then once the ONT is authenticated, ( which only indicates the OR service is OK ) no test of the onward connection into TT can be done , and unfortunately if it’s the case that the cessation of your FTTC is linked to the TT FTTP provision, then it’s possible the FTTC service will cease before you get your new TT router ( presumably your existing TT router is not FTTP compatible ) .
Once Openreach indicate the FTTP installation is complete ( as far as OR would be concerned the ‘job’ is complete ) that may automatically trigger the FTTC service to be ceased .

Another possible (minor) irritant could be if you are served overhead from a telegraph pole , the copper pair dropwire will probably be left in situ alongside the new optical dropwire , whereas if the new TT router were available the copper dropwire could have been taken down as part of the FTTP installation …obviously if the copper is taken down before the new TT equipment turns up , then you won’t have any FTTC service or FTTP service

TalkTalk tend to send out routers wilynilly, I have 4 of the Fast 5364, 2 TalkTalk residential, 2 TalkTalk business, these are compatible with both their FTTC and FTTP services. So if you are staying on a OR provided line and have a Fast 5364 it should be just a case of plugging in lead from ONT to WAN port.

Because they advertise their services as being bundled with a Wi-Fi 6 router so need to provide you with what you signed up for. People like TalkTalk who can only resell the wholesale products available to them and have limited desire to appeal to the enthusiast end of the market (A&A, Aquiss) can only really differentiate their service with stuff like "Wi-Fi guarantees" or "look how good our router is", there's no technical reason why you can't keep using the one you have now.

Thanks JPM, i do like the look of the eero app you can see and do quite a lot of things when using it.

That's the one I have 4 of, I did have 5 but gave one to a friend for use on his business line.

Thanks great to know i can get online if the modem is late and i will keep it as a spare if the eero breaks.

The modem arrived before the installer.

The install went smoothly he was gone in just over an hour.

Happy with my new Wi-Fi speed -
