Dual Bonding ADSL 2+

[link to this post]

Out of interest does anybody know whether it is possible to bond 2 ADSL2+ streams together to create one very fast pipe?

I know this is possible with ISDN, so I am wondering whether it is possible with 2+.

The reason for asking is that all the debate on faster access centres around FTTH or FTTN and does not discuss the above!! if possible then would solve a cost problem and we should be able to get speeds of around 50meg...

Is this a stupid question??

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

I think ADSL2 and 2+ standards cover bonding at a low level (lower than ISDN PPP multilinking).

I doubt it would solve the problem to be honest for two reasons:

1) the max adsl2+ speed would only be available v close to the exchange
2) if it took off then everyone concerned would need two telephone lines and BT's copper network would not be able to cope

For a limited number of users in any particular area then yes it could well be an interesting add-on, in the same way that the bonding of adslmax lines is. Having said that, my own (limited) experience of bonding adsl lines is that it tends to be more of an art than a science. As such I doubt it would be suited to mass take up by non-techie consumers unless the way bonding is done with adsl2+ is fundementally better (which it might well be as I think it is "designed in" to some extent).

Its fundamentally different, in that it bonds two circuits as far as the DSLAM rather than bonding two TCP/IP streams over the whole network to the ISP. Whether its fundamentally better remains to be seen
