ADSL Connected but no throughput

Well i've been without broadband now for a week.

The modem connects, syncs at 8 Meg but I can only get a dribble through.

Averages 1 kb/s yes kb/s not mb/s

I've eliminated all internal wiring,filters an router buy removing or substituting.

I've now got a nice new shiny Netgear 834n with no more success.

BT have done line checks and have come back with no fault found.

Does anyone have any other idea's ?

Have you got another modem or router you can try? What are your line stats, attenuation and margin? What happens if you connect at the test socket?

Edit: I know you say you've eliminated internal wiring, but you don't mention having used the test socket. If you don't have one, how did you eliminate the wiring?

which ISP ?

Can you connect with the speedtest@speedtest_domain login to the BT speedtester or bt_test@startup_domain user and browse www.bt.net ?

Can you ping something like www.bbc.co.uk and can you still ping it if you do 'ping www.bbc.co.uk -l 1000' (that's a lower case L)

I had similar symptoms once when a Windows update took out my Netgear network card, it would only handle 64 bit packets or less.

ISP - BTBusiness Broadband
USB Modem - Intel Anypoint.
Original Router - PTI-840
New Router - Netgear DG834N

The incoming phone lines were oringinally installed to a hard wired junction box for the telephone exchange. (BT Termination box wired by them to our telephone terminal box)

From our terminal box the cabling is routed internally to reception where the fax & ADSL router is located. An NTE5 terminal box is fitted here are part of our installation.

To elinate the internal wiring our wiring was disconnected from our terminal box terminals and a replacement NTE5 terminal box hard wired from our terminals. (SNR value average 10.3)

The system will log on and authenticate with either the modem or either router, any site can be pinged and a response will be recieved

Try to browse and the download rate is extremely low, I've successfully opened www.google.co.uk and done a search to prove it is live, however when I can get the speedtest site to load the test cycle times out after about 10 minutes.

the line stats are fine. Try doing what I suggested last time.

Finally BT have listened and got an engineer to actually look at the fault.

Broadband was back on at 7:00 this morning.

They did not give any reason for the failure.
