Line Speed Degradation

[link to this post]

I have a Netgear DG834G router that indicates a downspeed of around 7000kbps, however, whenever I run a line speed test I never exceed 2000kbps. ISP is AOL. Are there any obvious reasons for the degradation?

It sounds like a stuck BRAS profile to me unless you mean that you have had higher speeds in the past as opposed to just syncing at 7 Mb.

many thanks - no have never managed speedtests above 2000kbps. How can I resolve potential BRAS profile problem?

Only your ISP can sort it out but you may need to get level 2 support as 'normal' AOL technical support may not know what you are talking about.
