MAX DSL Speed Issue

since i connected to eclipse 3 weeks ago (after a delay of one week because of issues with the exchange) on 8MB Max DSL I sync at 4200kbps (+-200Kbps) but only get a downstream of 720kps.

I have purchased new microfilers, connected to master socket, tested router ok at another address, removed all non-adsl devices; and tested a laptop from another working address to no avail.

i have connected using the BT Speedtester account and the BT speedtester highest report has been 760kbps when i have tested at perceived lower seeds (lower than 512kbps) the site fails with unknown testing error.

Eclipse have said if they pass this to BT i risk them doing nothing and charging me

Give it 10 days... if you dont get better performance on your line, ask the ISP to re-grade you to IPStream.

You need to give 10 days as this is how long it takes for your line profile to be built with BT's systems. You may see variable speeds and all sorts of disconnections etc. in the mean time. See posts on MAX Dsl technology here or elsewhere...

I had to regrade my line as the connection seems to be bad on the line which drives BT's MAX systems crazy...

Changing microfilters or using the master socket may improve your SNR and sync speed but this is not your problem. With a sync speed of 4200kbps you should be able to get a line rate of 3.5Mbps.

You can check your data rate from within the Eclipse control panel.

It looks like you are experiencing contention and because you get a slow speed from the BT speedtester this indicates the bottleneck is at the exchange rather than within the Eclipse network. I think that Eclipse are right in saying that BT do not regard average speeds of above 400kbps as a fault.

Perhaps someone else on the Eclipse forum can be of more help.
