Speed problems - noob

[link to this post]

Hi all, I'm having speed problems with my connection, It's Pipex and supposed to be at 2.2 but I've never got above 1.2 and this evening it's at 798kb/s. I'm using the old green frog alcatel modem, is this the problem? Are there any utils which will will give me information on the connection?

TIA

Downstream 880.1 Kbps
Upstream 241.0 Kbps

The connection says 2.2 mbps if I hover over it, the utility mentioned earlier showed if was only using half the bandwidth coming down.

eta: Could it be the usb connection?

Either that or Pipex or BT congestion.

Well it happens all the time so I don't think it's congestion, are usb connections limited to 1/mb sec?

It can depend what other USB devices you have connected.

Well I got myself a pci hub and the only other device I have on is a mouse, so it can't be that.

I've got the original green speedtouch usb modem, is it capable of high speed access?

It is, but if you google for Thomson Speedtouch 330 and go on their website, I believe there are drivers to update your modem to support the upto 8mb product.
Give that a go and let us know how you get on

you'll only need the patch if the line speed is over 4Mbit/s

I was aware of that, but could be worth upgrading it anyway.
