How good are filtered faceplates?

[link to this post]

Hi,

I'm considering getting a filtered faceplate for my master socket, but i'm not sure whether or not it's worth it.

At the moment I have a standard NTE5 faceplate with a single dedicated ADSL extension wired into it, and a single telephone plugged into the master socket.

I've been looking at these two:

http://www.adslnation.com/products/xte2005.php

http://www.clarity.it/xcart/product.php?productid=16134&cat=262&page=1

So are these good, and if so which one should I get?

Thanks.

Those two are both good. Whether you get any improvement in ADSL performance is largely guesswork, but if the extension is several metres long then quite possibly it will.

A faceplate more or less doubled my low SNR which had reduced my connection to almost useless at night. One faceplate later, it is now solid and no dropouts. Well worth the try for the small price to see if one works for you.

the main advantage of a faceplate filter is its location, you can test the benefit with a normal microfilter plugged into the test socket, the router plugged into that and the faceplate off the master plugged into the phone socket of the microfilter. In some cases you may need a short BT extension lead to get it all to fit together physically.

Mine bought me 6dB on a 2MB/s connection but I didn't bother to reconnect the extensions as they were unused.

I've seen someone posting elsewhere who found his was actually worse than a dangler type in the test socket - my take on that is that the faceplate one was possibly faulty.

The main advantage is that using one gets rid of the extensions so far as adsl is concerned as they are all on t'other side of the filter.
