getting a better connection

[link to this post]

in an attempt to improve my connection I connected the router into the test socket of the master socket, using just an adsl filter, no other phones connected. Results below

There seems to be a significant change in the Downstream rate. But will it improve my MaxDSL connection speed eventually. Also will an adslnation filtered socket help keep this improvement when I plug the phones back in.

What could it be that is causing the problem

BEFORE
DSL Status : Up
DSL Modulation Mode : GDMT
DSL Path Mode : INTERLEAVED
Downstream Rate : 2240 Kbps
Upstream Rate : 448 Kbps
Downstream Margin : 8 db
Upstream Margin : 16 db
Downstream Line Attenuation : 57
Upstream Line Attenuation : 31
Downstream Transmit Power : 0
Upstream Transmit Power : 0

AFTER (using test socket)
DSL Status : Up
DSL Modulation Mode : GDMT
DSL Path Mode : INTERLEAVED
Downstream Rate : 2528 Kbps
Upstream Rate : 448 Kbps
Downstream Margin : 11 db
Upstream Margin : 17 db
Downstream Line Attenuation : 57
Upstream Line Attenuation : 31
Downstream Transmit Power : 0
Upstream Transmit Power : 0

A sync of 2272 and above should give you a profile of 2M rather than 1.5M - see here for details.

That's why I was experimenting as I saw I was right on the borderline of getting the extra 500k

But if I add a xte-2500 filtered plate am i likely to see some of the gain i get by using the test socket direct

I plugged the phones back in now, router in the old master socket plug, extensions connected. Router is currently connected at 2272, so things are obviously right on the border

I think that is the idea but I have no experience with them. People also talk about cutting the ring wire. I would do some searches in this forum - it is a well discussed topic.

Yes, a faceplate filter should negate the effects of your extension wiring.

Only on the phone side. A long wire on the ADSL side won't be affected by the filter.

An update.

Still not ordered the adslnation filtered plate, looks like there out of stock till end of next week. With the current setup I noticed BT upgraded my IP Profile from 1500 to 2000 after 3 days at the higher rate.

But I was playing around with the master socket, tidied some of the loose wires up. Then realised the extension cable had really long exposed leads so twisted them together. Plugged it all back in and am now getting a much better connection

Downstream Rate : 2720 Kbps
Upstream Rate : 448 Kbps
Downstream Margin : 10 db
Upstream Margin : 16 db
Downstream Line Attenuation : 59

2720 from 2240 and when I plugged it straight into the test socket it was high enough to get me into the 2.5mb range according to Kitz site (2848)

It was worth having a play around, can't wait to see how the filtered plate helps
