Sync but no PPP Connection on BT Max via F2S

[link to this post]

My ADSL Max (F2S Cascade Plus) on the Tilehurst exchange (THTT) hasn't worked since Thursday night.

My router (Draytek 2600) is showing that it has synced at anywhere between 6.9Mbit -7.3Mbit downstream with full upstream 448Kbit. However it is sitting on "Starting PPP..." and is counting up packets transmitted however it is not showing that it has received anything.

I have tried using the bt_test@startup_domain and setting to dynamic WAN IP and get the same thing - I can't get to the bt.net/digitaldemo as the router isn't managing to acquire an IP address. It also sits on "Starting PPP...". Stats are: SNR Margin: 7.0 dB, Loop attn.: 32.0 dB. Uncorr_blocks=0.

I've tried rebooting several times to no avail. Contacted F2S tech support on Friday morning and they said the router last hit their RADIUS server just after midnight and hadn't since. The guy said the current issue with DataStream products wouldn't affect me and there was no current outage from BT affecting my line.

The router hasn't had any configuration changes made in recent weeks so don't think it's that.

Does anyone who knows more about ADSL have any idea where the fault could ly with this? Is it likely to be at the Exchange or could my router being playing up?

Unfortunately F2S don't work weekends and so I'll be without unless I can sort this myself. I've posted this on Freedom2Support aswell but I guess this is more of a general ADSL question.

may be worth factory resetting the router, leave it off for an hour and starting over. The bt_test@startup_domain login should be tried first, IP addresses are always by PPP negotiation, check you're on PPPoA with all the other settings correct. If that doesn't get an IP address then you have to report a fault and wait for resolution. speedtest@speedtest_domain is another one to try. These probably don't work on LLU or Datastream unless F2S have set up some mimics.

bt_test@whateveryounormallyputhere is the next thing to try if the above works, then your own login credentials.

It's not an LLU connection and so I've tried all the BT logins to no avail - still no PPP connection and no IP address.
Who operates the far-end of the PPP connection? Is it at the exchange? Is it BT?

I think there is a fault somewhere there, I think the carrier is ok.

Cheers,

Joel.

the test logins @startup_domain or @speedtest_domain route to BT Radius servers, the [email protected] or whatever is served by F2S servers.

Authentication is a 2 step process, the BT server checks that the @ domain is correct and routes accordingly to the relevant ISP.

Looks like you'll have to raise it as a fault on Monday.
