SNR way too high, ISP giving me the runaround

[link to this post]

I'm about ready to massacre the Entanet tech support staff

When I first got MAX my line synched at around 3600 with an SNR of 5/6. A bout of thunderstorms a while back during the summer knocked my SNR up to 15 and now I'm lucky to see a synch of 2500. I migrated to Enta just after the SNR shot up, so on their logs they have my synch as never going above 2500 odd so they're telling me thats my line's max....yet a simple check on the line checker will clarify that I can get "up to 3MB" as I was before my SNR was bonjaxed

How in the hell can I get them to get BT to retrain my line? is there anything I can do at my end to force the system into a retrain? like would making my SNR really bad manually make the system retrain me or would that leave me stuck at an even higher SNR?

Just a side thought, would moving to a fixed speed product, i.e. non-max 1mb/2mb then moving back to 8mb mean my line would be retrained, and I'd go through the 10 day BRAS polava again?

going fixed and back may sort it, unless the system discovered your old values in a drawer.

Apart from ISP intervention your other hope is that after a prolonged stable period the target SNR margin does reduce, mine got up to 12 but is now back at 9.

I'll ask tech support and see what they think about going fixed for a while

Well my line has been totally stable at 15, the lowest I've ever seen it go was 10, but when I refreshed the screen it was 15 again, maybe a router glitch. I really doubt it's going to go back down on it's own, though oddly my speed has went from 175kb/s to 200kb/s in the last week, and hte synch's went up about 300, still nothing near what it should be though

That's not a router glitch, it's quite normal for the noise margin to fluctuate through the day. The 15dB set by the BT equipment is just the target noise margin which applies when you re-sync. After that it can change by any amount, unless it goes so low that the router re-syncs, at which time the margin will be 15dB again, probably with a lower speed.

Well I know it flucuates throughout the day, but a bit odd that just decides to go back to 15 when I refresh the stats lol

My speeds never go below the 170kb/s mark, did a speedtest there and it was 230kb/s, so maybe things are on the up, but my synch is still 2300 with an SNR of 15

So.. you're happy to go through all this whenever you've had a thunderstorm?

well if it means getting the full speed my line will handle rather than half of it, then yeah

Your ISP can have the line retrained for you it should not be a problem. We commonly do this to get a new MSR when customers fix internal wiring issues, the process should also get the target SNR set back to 6.

Ask your ISP what your fault threshold rate is on Whoosh to see if the current speed is below it so a lower threshold breach fault could be raised.

Your SNR 'should' go back down to 6/9/12 once the BT automated systems notice the line nice and stable.

My ISP's refusing to do it because I migrated to them just after my SNR issues started, so their logs show my line as always maxing out at about 2300, when before the SNR issues it maxed out at 3600. So now they've got me doing BT speedtests

I doubt I'm below the fault threshold, I used to max out at about 350kb/s and atm I'm just hitting 200kb/s, but I'll ask anyway

if the MSR got set to 3600 the FTR will be 2520 so you may well be below that.
