AOL to BT migration

[link to this post]

Hi Folks
My mum has just migrated today to BT from AOL. I decided to keep the netgear router instead of the BT one. I arrived and she said she had an email saying the migration was done this afternoon. i could not understand how she was still connected to the net as I hadn't changed the login details on the router.

I checked the ip and it was from AOL. Changed the login details and ip was now from BT.

Can 2 isp's be connected at the same time on the same line? Also there is a big problem with the speed...syncing @ around 8meg (adsl max) but speed tests all show download @ less than 0.5 meg, her upload speed is nearly the same as her download speed.

I moved the router to the master socket with no change. Is this because AOL are still on the line? anyone know what is going on here?

Thanks
GiZZeRR

sorry i fogot to check the att/snr when I was over.

Max lines sometimes need a few days stability to build the speed up. It'll be fine.

I'm not really new to this, I know about bras etc, just though it strange I was able to connect to both aol and bt on the same line. Also .5 mb seems a bit slow to start the connection off at. Before I moved to BE* I had BT then nildram when adslmax started and never had such a low download speed at the beginning. I was hoping it was something to do with 2 isp's on the same line.

Thanks
GiZZeRR

It is quite common for there to be an overlap when migrating and the new connection goes live. Have you tried the BT speedtest site to see what her profile is saying. I.e. it will show what her line is capable of though I don't know if there is anything there until the ten days are up and it can take considerable perseverance to connect. It is possible that something has gone wrong as usually a stuck BRAS profile is usually 2Mbps. If it doesn't charge over the first three days it would be worth contacting the ISP though they may dismiss any concerns until the ten days are up.

Quite common on migrations.
Access to the old ISP doesn't always get cancelled until some time after the new one is available (when I migrated away from Eclipse, I could still access my old Eclipse connection, right up to the cancellation date).
