Constant connection dropping

[link to this post]

Hi everybody, this is my 1st post, so please excuse me if its not the best.

Over the last couple of months, my connection keeps on dropping. It is totally random, sometimes it occurs every few seconds, other times the line will stay up for a couple of days.
I have a BT Voyager 2110 ADSL Router, but have tried a Netgear DG834G & PCI Modem in my PC, the problem happens with all of them.

On my BT Voyager, the internet & DSL lights go out, then the DSL light keeps flashing and going off all the time. Sometimes it takes up to an hour or 2 before the connection comes back.

I have also tried different microfilters and plugging the Routers into the test socket on the master NTE5 box in the front bedroom where the line comes into the house.

I have tried technical support at my ISP (BT Broadband) and have spent hours trying to get my problem across to them. They have run various line tests from their end and most say that there is no problem, although 1 said his PC was telling him there was a problem, so he agreed to send an engineer.

The engineer arrived and plugged his laptop into my router and said he found no problems, but said that I needed an NTE5 ADSL faceplate, so fitted one. The problem seems to be a bit better now, but still occurs most of the time and also, I need to plug the router into an extension socket, not the master, which the NTE5 ADSL faceplate limits me to and I know the extension wiring is OK, as the problem still happens with all extension wiring and phones disconnected!

The line stats from my BT Voyager are:

Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 2272 Kbps 288 Kbps
Noise Margin 11.8 dB 28.0 dB
Line Attenuation 48.0 dB 29.0 dB
Output Power 18.3 dBm 11.9 dBm

Are these figures acceptable?
Could anyone suggest a way for me to to try and sort this line dropping issue out?

I am currently on 2 MB from BT Broadband, but have just signed up for Sky Broadband 8 MB, wil this be a waste of time, if my line will not even support 2 MB properly?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

that's plenty of margin, or ought to be. The attenuation is outside the limit for a fixed speed 2M servcie so you were lucky not to be downgraded to 1M.

Keep an eye on that noise margin and see what happens when it gets dark.
