Can I migrate from 2MB to Max in one step?

[link to this post]

I'm looking to migrate away from Namesco, or should that be Nameslow to an alternate ISP.

I'm currently on a 2MB product, but want to move onto Max. Can I migrate straight onto Max or do I have to first go on to a 2MB product with another provider...?

If I go straight to Max, is there a danger of getting stuck at 2MB?

Si.

i moved from fixed rate 1mb AOL to IDNET max in 1 step. Well to be totally honest, i found i was moved from 1mb AOL - 1mb IDNET, and then upgraded by idnet to MAX. This happened in a matter of hours (at like 2am). However you just put it through as one order.

You can go stgraight to MAX. it would be worth checking how good a connection you can get, put your attenuation and SNR margin into http://www.dslzoneuk.co.uk/maxspeed.php - I found it actually slightly pessimistic (I get the full 8mb). You'll get a 10 day "training" period during which anything can happen and often does. Yes, you can get "stuck" on 2mb, if your ISP has good support they can get you off it (stuck profile), even at times before the 10 days.

Yes, you can move from fixed speed to MAX as part of your migration, but be aware that you will be in a 10 day training period, this can cause your speed to go up and down and with posible disconects depending on your line quality, you will also see your speed stuck at arount the 2mb mark during this period this is due to your profile stuck at 2mb while training, it can go up with in the 10 days but not always.

Sorry, you didn't make yourself too clear there - you stated that I WILL see myself stuck at 2MB during the training period at one point, but also said that I will see my speed go up and down - which is it to be?

migrations are always on the same product, followed by a regrade, but its seamless to the user and is done practically at the same time. Your IP Profile will initially be 2M, unless the modem sync speed falls below 2272, and it should follow the modem speed up initially within 75 minutes and then subsequent changes with a 3 day-ish lag.

You may find it works better if the router is off overnight when the change is made, if not leaving it off for an hour or so after the move may help budge it off its 2M profile if it is stuck on it.

The modem sync speed will go up and down for ever. The 10 day period is much the same as the rest of what follows.
