Using my microfilter

[link to this post]

Sorry I am not a technical person and don't understand such things so can someone please advise me on 2 things. Firstly, I have a doubler in my phone line socket in which I have one telephone cable connected to my Linksy Wireless-G WAG54G and in the other socket I have a telephone cable to me phone. I have a microfilter fitted in the cable to my phone but the cable to my Linksy connects straight into the socket socket with no microfilter. So my first question is do I need a microfilter fitted on my Linksy cable (everything works perfectly by the way.) My second question is this, I have a Belkin surge protection strip In which I have to connect a telephone cable in and out - which one do I plug in - the one from my telephone or the one from my Linksy - or does it not matter. Hope someone can advise me.

You have it set up correct at the moment. Don't put the telephone line through Belkin anti surge jobbie, and especially not the feed for the router, it's not worth it, and in some cases, can actually make the signal worse.

Thanks for reply. How do I protect my telephone line against surges if I don't run it through the Belkin. Is my phone line and Linksy protected by just having both the phone and Linksy plugged into the surge bar.

By all means plug any electric leads into the Belkin, and I should imagine that would be enough for them to reimburse you if the equipment did get borked. But TBH it is going to do diddly squat on the phone lead side of things. The only 'surge' that is going to come through your phone line would be lightning, and your Belkin will prove pointless if that happens.

You just don't worry about it. The Belkin is sold on FUD [Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt]. If you have a BT master socket, that already has some surge protection built in. If the worst comes to the worst, you buy a new router - it is hardly loss of the crown jewels.
