Ok, At current my router is syncing at 1meg, my line should be capable of 3meg+.
So I'm going to be looking at my internal wiring. We have 5 sockets in the house, 2 downstairs and 3 upstairs.
We don't have a NTE5 Socket, but we do have the old style, the oval shape container near the front door, then a main socket which i gather is the first socket in the house, from which all the other sockets are connected to.
We will disconnect all sockets leaving just the one socket connected to the line... If i then connect my router to this via the laptop, we should see if internal wiring was the problem???? shouldn't we?
3 weeks ago I noted my router stats and they were
ADSL
Type Interleave
Status No Defect
Downstream 1376 Upstream 448
Noise margin - Downstream 14.7 Upstream 24.0
Output power - Downstream 16.1 Upstream 12.3
Attenuation - Downstream 55.5 Upstream 31.0
Looking at that does it appear that internal conflict or interferance could be the problem?
Do you have any other advice with regards to this old style by wirings, and any advice on helping my determine the problem, if this is internal

removing the ring wire from T3 of all the sockets should help, your proposed test will illustrate the potential.

Ok, Just read alittle bit about ring wire and removing this. if i remove all the ring wire, and then test my router to see the stats, is this a result I should see straightaway? or does it take a few hrs to show up on the router stats?

It's immediate, usually in the form of a higher sync speed, though in some cases it would give a better noise margin.

Remove the ring wire from terminal 3 of all boxes, including the master. The difference (if there is any) will be immediate. Note that doing this can stop some older phones from ringing, so test to make sure.

It's still a good idea to disconnect all telephones from our main socket, leaving just the one socket live. this should give a good idea as what what the problem is, if this is internal.
If it is internal it should sync at a higher speed.
what are the main data i need to compare before disconnecting all internal sockets and after. what am i looking for apart from line speed?

with MaxDSL you'll just see the speed change at the same SNR margin. It happens straight away so you can test various combinations. You may also see lower error rates if your kit has a BER test facility.

Yes, having just one box would be better. What you are trying to do is to reduce noise picked up by the ring wire, because this acts like an aerial. The better the noise margin, the higher your sync speed should be. I'm quite surprised that your current noise margin is about 14dB - the default is 6dB - it could be that in the recent past you have had noise on your line which may have caused disconnections, so BT may have automatically jacked up your SNR margin to improve stability. When you've made your improvements to the wiring, you may need to get your ISP to get BT to restore the default margin.

Ok,
I disconnected all the phone sockets leaving just one by the front door. It sync'd at 2.5megs thats nearly 2 meg more than it snyc when all the sockets are connected.
The noise margin didn't really move much, this decreased from 17 to 15...
but as someone already stated Bt could of increased this to stableize the line, so i can look into that once we have determined which cables are faulty.
So does this show that interal wiring is the problem as the line sync'd at nearly 2meg more?

Can anyone post a diagram of a socket and what cables need to be where, cause i think we have cables that dont need to be connected on our sockets.

All your sockets just need 2 (blue/white) and 5 (white/blue) connected.

You'll get better results if you don't connect the ring wire on each jack, but make sure the phones ring OK if you don't connect it.

on the diagram from the link, we have 2 and 5 connected but also one from 3.. what is the wire from 3 (bell wire) is this needed?

3 is the ringwire.
Leave it disconnected but make sure your phones ring without it..most new phoones will.

I think you can take 3 (which is the dreaded 'ring wire') out to improve your signal because the microfilter does the ring wire job.

Yes, as long as the phones are connected with a good quality filter (some really cheap ones don't have a ring capacitor), then you can disconnect ALL the ring wires on terminal 3.
