Different network card to Router/Suggested Router

[link to this post]

Im interested in buying a new ADSL modem/router and im sick of belkin full stop. Its far too stop and start for me with many drop outs or crashing - ive had the same experience with 2 other belkin routers so this isnt just a coincidence. Therefore im looking for a ADSL/ADSL2+ modem/router thats most reliable and keeps a stable connection with a respectable range. Firstly if anyone has any offers on the most reliable one good for such things as multiple users connected by ethernet or wireless and being used for online gaming alot. secondly since i've had a belkin router 3 times my pc's have belkin network cards. Therefore if i was to buy a new router which wasnt a belkin would it work with these cards?

Thanks,
Jonny

Your cards will comply with one standard or another (e.g. 802.11b or 802.11g) and so will any router, so they ought to be compatible, at least for the common speeds. You can't rely on any proprietary features, particularly 108 Mbps speeds, if you mix'n'match makes.

Personally, I don't have much faith in Belkin's s/w (drivers) so I'd also point a finger at your Belkin NICs in looking for the cause of the drop-outs.

Never had any problems with Belkin NIC's (realtech chip set), had more troubles with Linksys than any other brand.
