DMT RCO

[link to this post]

There is a field in DMT when used with Speedtouch routers at least, that is labelled RCO, it has a kbps figure and a percentage.

Right now I am assuming it's some kind of 'max line speed' type thing, since the percentage figure is basically your line speed matched against the RCO.

So if the RCO is 10000kbps and your linespeed is 2500kbps, the RCO will also be labelled 25%.

Is it correct that this is showing the max speed your line can carry? or is it something else.

Just wondering since my line is barely 100metres long and my line stats are very good, yet it gives me an RCO of just under 12000kbps.

Relative Capacity Occupation ie what % of what it thinks is the maximum you are currently getting.

Weird then since I am synced at 2mbit and only have a 2mbit service.

So this wont apply if I changed to say, Be*?

Getting the adsl info from the telnet commands labels what is listed as RCO in DMT as "Intrinsic/Actual Bandwidth" and then lists the percentages.

"yet it gives me an RCO of just under 12000kbps." so I guess 12M is its estimate of what you would get from Be. I don't know if that figure would change once it was running in ADSL2+ mode (I assume it is ADSL2+ compatible) as 12M is the ceiling for ADSL2 (without the plus).

The RCO is the sync speed that the modem estimates you would have if the SNR margin dropped to zero. It doesn't take into account any speed capping that the ISP may impose. ADSL can reach 12Mbps under certain circumstances, but is capped to 8Mbps.

If you went onto Be you would get a much higher speed than this using ADSL2+ - almost certainly over 20Mbps with a 100m line unless you're very unlucky with noise.

Ah I see, it's not reporting the max ADSL2+ speed, I get it now.

I just had a little thought about Be* and then saw that limit and wondered if it was something to do with maximum capability
