Changing Sync!?

[link to this post]

Hello all,
I have been with Be Unlimited for nearly 3 months now and am happy with the service & support however I have a sync query.

After purchasing 3 ADSLNation XF-1e filters my downstream sync was around 68xx Kbps, up from 67xx Kbps & the upstream had the most benefit going from 9xx Kbps up to 12xx Kbps. Great! This held for about 10 days to 2 weeks then the daytime downstream sync would lose about 1 meg.

Around the beginning of March Be kindly reduced the sync margin from around 6dB to 3dB and this resulted in the maximum downward sync going up to 7709Kbps and so I would have approximately 6 meg during the day and 5 meg after sunset. Once again after 10 days to 2 weeks the 'normal sync' from the Belkin F5D9630 is in the low 6xxx Kbps.

There are 2 extensions in the house (with the router on the 2nd extension) linked to the Master and all sockets give similar statistics and this past weekend, on March 23rd, the 7709 Kbps sync was held all day with several network resyncs re-establishing the connection at 7709 Kbps every time.

With a 'faulty' ADSLNation XF-1e filter at the Master (which gives a high sync but occasionally with rain or a phone ring it will disconnect and resync the router) a recycle will give a 7xxx Kbps sync for up to an hour then the sync will come back down to 6xxx Kbps.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

Data rate (Kbps)

Noise margin (dB)

Output power (dBm)

Attenuation (dB)

have you tried in the test socket behind the master faceplate for a comparison, if its better than a filtered faceplate or disconnecting the ringwire from terminal 3 of the master may help.

All of the 'extra' wires attatched have been removed from all sockets and there is no socket behind the master faceplate.

You have an old style BT box. In this case you will need to manually disconnect all the extensions from the master socket, then connect your ADSL modem/router to this master socket, and see how the connection behaves. Having a long extension on the router leaves you open to noise pickup. Ideally, phone extensions should be filtered at the master socket end - it prevents noise pickup from being fed back to the ADSL router.
