Hello,
When I logged on yesterday morning I discovered that I had no broadband connection. I tried re-booting my Belkin wireless router a few times but still nothing. I thought it may be a problem with my ISP's DNS service so I switched my routers settings to Open DNS. The connection then returned for around 5 minutes and then went dead again.
It was dead all day yesterday, I did the above again this morning and got back on for around 1 hour until it went off again, and it hasn't been back since.
Other users with the same ISP (ezeedsl) don't seem to be having any connection problems so i'm thinking it could be a hardware/software issue at my end. Although if it was a router problem would I have been able to connect at all, even if it was only for a few minutes?
I've opened a ticket with ezeedsl but getting a reply is like getting blood from a stone, has anyone got any possible suggestions?
Cheers,
Dan

Does your router log events? If so perhaps you could post the log.

Is the router synching? Waht are your linestats. You would be well advised to be sure of the position on these before jumping in and fiddling with DNS.

Hi John,
Thanks for the reply.
In my security log I have a lot of lines that all look like this:
08/01/2003 02:58:38 If(ATM1) PPP fail : Timeout in LCP negotiation
08/01/2003 02:57:48 ATM1 start PPP
08/01/2003 02:57:47 If(ATM1) PPP fail : Timeout in LCP negotiation
08/01/2003 02:56:59 ATM1 start PPP

I'm afraid it doesn't mean anything to me. I'm sure there are people who have your modem who will explain it for you.

Your link has failed. Linestats are the next point to address.

HI
Thanks for your reply, this is probably a really dumb question but how do I check the line stats?
|
|
|
|
There should be a page like where you found your logs. It should have details about attenuation and SNR upstream and downstream etc. Post this info.

Those stats look fine to me - unfortunately I'm no expert. Does the log still show the same messages?

I was out this morning and drove past a comet so I nipped in and bought a new router, I stayed well away from Belkin this time!
I plugged it in and I was back online within 5 minutes.
The moral of the story....stay away from Belkin routers!
Thanks for all your help.
Dan

What did you buy? I had belkin, was [censored], so got a netgear. I've not looked back either.

I'm the same, I bought a netgear as well. Seems fine so far, I had a bit of trouble setting up the wireless network but that's because me and networks don't get along, the router is good though ;-)
