constant (but very random) line drops

[link to this post]

Could really use some advice please.

Until recently my Max connection (with Pipex) was fine. Speed wasn't great but it was stable. Over this weekend it has become very untrustworthy. This is whats happening -
Can be online (gaming) for several hours then connection drops. My PC hasn't actually dropped the connection - it just is getting nothing through. If I do a send/receive on my mail it cannot connect to the server. I have to manually disconnect then reconnect. Without exception it reconnects and authenticates my username/password immediately. The connection will then drop again maybe within seconds, maybe within a couple of minutes and will continue in this pattern. Once it starts happening I may as well just give up and come back later - it may then be OK, maybe not. On Sunday this was happening at 3pm, 6 pm and 9pm...virtually unuseable.

Pipex have been fairly helpful so far in that I had contacted them on Saturday as was having these issues and was given a test account login ID so that my drops can be monitored. They confirmed 18 drops on the test on Sunday. This was during maybe 40 minutes of playing about just to prove there was an issue.

I have tried the obvious - diferent filter, check connections, reinstall modem etc - but I cannot see that this issue is going to be my kit, it's just too random.

Pipex say they will now raise this with BT to look for a fault. Can anyone advise what this may entail? Has anyone has this type of issue and had it resolved? Any other advice that I can try please?

Any help much appreciated as I can't trust my connection at all at this point.

Thanks

Hi mate,

I have the exact same problem, all over this weekend. I have changed my ADSL wireless router, ethernet cables, phone cables, filter... all to no avail. One minute its fine, then it goes off, then reconnects.
Ive plugged the filter direct into the phone socket (behind the front panel)
I was playing poker last night and the same happened time and time again.

Ive phoned BT today and they say the line is ok.
My phone line is noisy as hell but that may be just my phone but I havent another phone in the house to test this with. Ive also disconnected the phone line and Sky from the filter but that hasnt improved the situation either. Im at my wits end now and do not seem to have a clue what to do next.
Ive come home tonight and tried to distance everything away from the 4 gang plug socket but that has done no good either. Im pretty sure it isnt eclipse

Read these posts especially with regards to noise and removing the ring wire. http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=technical&Number=2968854&page=0&view=expanded&sb=5&o=2&fpart=
It may help to eliminate interference on your internal wiring.
