Syncing at 8160 kpbs

[link to this post]

I have a thread in the Pipex forum but as vistors there now are less frequent than good Government policy, I thought I'd ask here

My router went off the other night overnight and re synced at 8160 kbps rather than the 8128kbps before.

Tracerts suggest I am still on the Pipex network but the Sync speed has me puzzled, am I now on LLU ?

At my parents, on the same exchange , they have lost sync completely at the same time and not yet reconnected, so have Tiscali been tinkering ?

TIA

I've seen occasional posts of syncs above the normal Max ADSL standard of 8128. You sometimes see the next two 32kbps steps, i.e. 8160 and 8192 kbps. I think I read it's down to favourable conditions and compatible router/DSLAM.

Thanks.

I shall give the line a good polish with Brasso then and see if I can get it up to 8192kbps

It's just a coincidence my parents have lost sync then, and the exchange is at the end of thier garden

I had the same bump in synch when I was put on Tiscali LLU.

try putting in your number at http://speedtester.bt.com/ . if you're on LLU you'll get "Authorisation failed Incorrect Telephone Number - Please try again".

Ah yes, I did that last night and got that reply, forgot until now.

So, I am on LLU then ? , Tracert retains the gxn bits that indicated Pipex ? no sign of the T word in it

My parents are on the same exchange, so they must have been LLU'd but they are not syncing ?

Any quick cure for that ?, they spent a fustrating time today being told to check all the leads, plug into the master socket etc etc, and reinstal software (they have a Netgear router lol )

I'll have to go round tonight, plug into the master just to check the extension lead etc out.

99.99% sure the switch to LLU has screwed it up

if you haven't already done so, I would hard reset the router an put in all the settings again.

Well, success.

Turns out the adsl filter I'd put on the NTE5 was not playing ball.

Master socket > router > PC perfect. In fact some praise for Tiscali is due, as although the exchange is at the bottom of the garden, literally 10/15 metres away, the attenuation and speeds have always been poor (with or without nte filter) , but not enough to bother light browsers/emailers, so I never persued with Pipex.

Now speeds have tripled !!!

Obviously LLU requires higher quality connection internally ?

Anyway, all sorted now and one less hassle

Well, it was question really.

nothing changed with the line at home and the switch to LLU stopped it working.

connecting to the master socket fixed things, so , I dunno, all works now.
