Just swapped to ADSL2+, will it get faster ???

[link to this post]

I have just been connected to ADSL2+ with BE, they estimated I would get 9 -12Mbps but I am only getting 7.2Mbps so far, It has only been on for a couple of hours and the BE router was faulty so I had 5 disconnects in about 5 minutes but am now hooked up with my netgear and getting 7.2 down and 1.29 up, will tis improve or is that all I can get ???
P.S used to get 6 - 6.3Mbps on adslmax.

It's unlikley to increase IMO. At least unless you can make any improvements your end.

Post up your router stats - it may be that you can improve your internal wiring/filtering and get better speeds.

Is that a speedtest or the line rate?

That does look slow to me for the attenuation reported - you could easily get around that speed on ADSL.

Have you tried connecting at the test socket? (This is the inner socket on your BT master which should be revealed by removing the faceplate). If it syncs faster there then you have your answer - the internal wiring is poor and you should consider removing the ring wire from hard wired extensions or fitting a filtered faceplate. It always pays to run the router from the master if at all possible too and certainly never on flat plugin extensions.

did you set up your netgear configuration for LLU as your synch speed suggests that your not using LLU adsl2+ protocol.

btw what make and version netgear is it?

When I connect to the test socket I get 8.2 more or less so have removed the telephone extension completely and am now connected into the normal socket on the face plate and am getting 7.75Mbps router is a netgear DG834g V4.

Hi

I would try the Be Box and see what you get as that is set up correctly for ADSL2+.

On the Netgear you need to go the ADSL settiings and select ADSL2+, otherwise you are sync'g at ADSL1 which only goes to around 8200 maximum.

Phil

Also my BeBox holds the line better than my Netgear 834PN.

I wouldn't automatically dismiss the BeBox just because it's free
