Should I get 2 adsl at 50:1 or 1 adsl at 20:1?

I currently manage ICT at a number of small offices but I need to increase the bandwith. Currently I have a number a low end ADSL MAX service in each office but the costs for improving the service seem out of the ordinary. My thinking is that I should seperate all VPN traffic from other internet traffic by using 2 ADSL Max connections rather than upgrade to a service with a smaller contention ratio. Our VPN is primarliy used for Terminal Services which required a reliable upload service. Our Sonicwall firewell is supposed to give this priority but I think that it sometimes gets buffered by other services.
Any thoughts?

A 2Meg connection if the 20:1 kicks in will still be slow, just that a 50:1 would be slower.

How much difference does it make? And also worth noting that over the BT Wholesale segment if the provider is selling both services based on a Max 448Kbps upload then the priority as far as wholesale is concerned is identical. Only the 832Kbps products get a better priority in the BT Wholesale segment.

In short the 20:1 and 50:1 can only refer to the bits under direct control of the ISP.

Generally two connections would be the better option, a Max Premium (832 upload) for the VPN, and then a more normal Max for office browsing.

If it is really important then consider the LLU providers who can offer higher speed uploads and their contentions are possibly easier to identify as they have better control of the network.

If you are using ADSL for inter-site VPN, remember that the highest speed you will ever get is the UPLOAD speed, ie, 448k or 832k(iirc) for business-grade services. You'll be getting even less if you are running a significant amount of email and other upstream traffic too.

Doesn't matter if both ends have near-8Mb download speed, as the traffic has to leave each site on the low-bandwidth upstream connection.

(sounds obvious I know, but it's astounding how many people forget about this...)
