Can I get a new line on the closer exchange?

Hi , I'm currently right on the edge of the region served by LSCTFD 2600m away
Where I live also overlaps with a closer exchange LSGRO 1000m away
There are houses 100metres away served by this exchange.

Last time a BT Engineer came he said I could have been on that exchange.

If I order a brand new line, is there anyway I could bribe the engineer to make sure its put on Grove Park?
Or is the work order fixed in stone somehow? I think the GP exchange is newer and is being used for new lines in the overlap area. Although when ever I look up a house in the overlap area , SamKnows defaults to Catford.

I've asked a similar Q before but didnt have the info of the exchange coverage areas overlapping.
I'm about 500m inside the GROVE PARK coverage area, and literally about 10m inside the Catford one.

BT has no obligation to run a cable from a particular exchange, there may be no spare pairs from the closer exchange.

NOTE: Straight line distance does not guarantee line length will always be better, a lot depends on the history of the area and things like railway lines etc

You can try but might take a few hundred lines before you get what you desire

If I order a line, do they tell you your number first before it's installed?
and if so, can you deduce the exchange from the number?

Numbers mean nothing as you can have a number that looks like the other area but served from the 'wrong' exchange

I attempted this last year and got nowhere. Where I live is only served by the one exchange that I'm already on even though there's another approx 4km closer. The main BT lines to the whole area are the same. To answer one query though, the people at the end of the phone were able to say which exchange without me committing to an order. I suppose you could try cold calling loads of times and seeing whether you have any luck.

As it happens, I switched to Sky who managed to increase my speed to 3 x that of pipex!

I'm not in the coverage area which is why I eventually took the view that I would never get the connection.
