help with faltering VM broadband

Having once been with Virgin Media ADSL the best advice I have is cancel while you can and find a better ISP.

Here are my latest Router stats after updating firmware on Linmksys WAG54G v1

Downstream Rate : 3808 Kbps
Upstream Rate : 448 Kbps
Downstream Margin : 13 db
Upstream Margin : 22 db
Downstream Line Attenuation : 51
Upstream Line Attenuation : 31
Downstream Transmit Power : 0
Upstream Transmit Power : 0

PVC Connection

Encapsulation : RFC 2364 PPPoA
Multiplexing : VC
QoS : UBR
Pcr Rate : 0
Scr Rate : 0
Autodetect : Disable
VPI : 0
VCI: 38
Enable : Yes
PVC Status : Applied


Line sync was 4Mb a week ago and 6Mb about 3 weeks ago. Also the Line DB and NSR have crept up but I have no stats.

The downstrream margin shifts randomly from 8 upto 16 at diff times

It looks like you are getting some assistance in the original thread now so there should be no need to continue the cross post.

BTW - although VM are an abysmal ISP they are not responsible for your internal house wiring which is the source of many line problems. As I haven't read through your other thread in detail I don't know if that is the case here.
