Hi all..
I've had a weird problem with my Pipex broadband connection for quite a while now. When I first signed up my account was an 8Mbps (max) G.DMT link. Everything worked well until my exchange was upgraded to ASDS2+ and I decided to upgrade.
The upgrade process seemed to go smoothly enough, and I was given my go live date. When I finally went onto ADSL2+ I had to guess what the settings were because 3 separate "tech support" advisers told me I must use G.DMT.
The following settings seemed to work for me:
VPI/VCI: 0/38
Encapsulation: VC MUX
Protocol: PPPoA
Modulation: ADSL2+ Auto(G.992.5)
With these settings I can get over 11Mbps, however I have problems establishing connections now, and experience a lot of timeouts. Some websites seem to be worse than others, with ebay being particularly bad. When the connection times out, I need to force a reconnection by releasing and renewing my LAN IP address, then it'll work for the next 30 seconds or so. I've tried setting the MTU to 1500 and have even set up my own DNS locally in case this was the issue. I've also made sure there are no problems with my LAN settings, and have tried different routers (Cisco 870 and Draytek Vigor 2800). The weird thing is, everything behaves well when I use G.DMT (albeit at 8Mbps) and established downloads will complete at my maximum bandwidth without problems on either. If anyone knows the correct settings for Pipex on ADSL2+ that'd be great. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
-Matt
