ADSL drops out when receiving a call (NOT Filters)

[link to this post]

Hi all, been a while since I posted here but wondering if anyone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction, have a really odd issue happening here. Had this BT line with Demon.net since September 2008 and originally got help on this forum to get rid of my 128/128 problem!!

Since then it's been running fine but now I have a very odd issue, everytime the phone rings for a few rings the ADSL drops out completely. I know everyone will be shouting filters first but I have tried this on the Master BT test socket without any phones plugged in and I still get the same trouble, but I can use the phone to make outgoing calls or answer quickly and it doesn't drop?!

I've tried 3 diferent filters, 2 different routers and 2 different ADSL cables, this problem I only noticed a week ago, nothing has changed.

The router I am using now is a BiPAC 7402NX with latest firmware, stats are:-

DSP Firmware Version E.25.41.55 A
Connected true
Operational Mode G.Dmt
Annex Type AnnexA
Upstream 832000
Downstream 6880000
Elapsed Time 0 day 0 hr 21 min 13 sec
SNR Margin(Upstream) 11 dB
SNR Margin(Downstream) 13.5 dB
Line Attenuation(Upstream) 7.0 dB
Line Attenuation(Downstream) 16.5 dB
CRC Errors(Upstream) 2
CRC Errors(Downstream) 0
Latency(Upstream) Interleave
Latency(Downstream) Interleave

When I receive a call and don't answer right away the Downstream CRC errors go up quite quickly, matter of hundreds in seconds.

I also tried with my NetGear DG834N latest firmware with same results, I've already contacted Demon who say it's BT and BT who say's it Demon.. I know that getting anywhere from this point is not gonna be easy, as of the moment it's already caused sync to drop to figure above from 8128 which had stayed since September.

Cannot think of anything else to try here and not sure who's fault it is or what to try? - There is nothing else connected like Alarms or anything either.. nothing has changed since this problem occured on my end.

Any help would be greatfully received

Many thanks

Nick

If the issue happens when you are plugged into the test socket then it's probably a line fault and needs reporting via your ISP. Unless there is noticeable noise on your phone then report it to your voice provider.

Hi Dave

Yes definitely does do it on the Test socket and the phone sounds clear as a bell, no background noise at all that I can notice. So guess it's attempt calling Demon again and get them to escalate with BT Wholsale

Will update you on my progress or lack of wink

Thanks

Nick

Are you sure you can't hear crackles on the line intermittently? smirk

Only when calling Demon who have an awful line wink

But seriously it sounds clear as it's done since I had line in September 2008.

Hi All

Another update, finally had BT Engineer around today to look at problem, he had already heard of this before and said it could be a connection between here and exchange not liking the higher voltage when the phone rings.

He unplugged face plate, hooked his own router into test socket and rang the phone.. it did cut out as expected.. he then left and said he would do some testing. About an hour later I had a call from him to say the problem is happening right at the Line Card and that he would need to contact a different department to get it swapped out.

To get around this for now, while I still wait I've used Call Divert for all incoming, not ideal but otherwise annoying to have connection drop each time, plus I saw my profile drop to 6000 because of this, seems it's re-couped back upto 7150 again!!

Will make a final post to confirm this works out, when I receive the next update smile

Regards

Nick

Can you believe I am still waiting?... BT saying Demon need to get their equipment changed and Demon saying it's BT... like banging my head against a brick wall!! - phoning up each day and e-mailing.. Looks like I will be stuck with Call Divert for a very long time frown

An update on this ongoing problem... looks like it's an interesting fault.. yet to be solved... so everything in house is fine, everything between master socket to exchange is fine.. Today they did a Lift & Shift.. fully expected this to solve problem.. but no joys"!! it's still doing the same thing even back at "The Frame" it's still continues to do the same thing... what else now? last thing on a Friday afternoon it's been passed on...

Think this has got to be a bizzare/rare fault?! would love to hear any comment??! smile

For now it's back to call divert

"Today they did a Lift & Shift"

Sounds more like it is a high resistance line fault between the master socket and the exchange despite their, no doubt, extensive testing.

John.
