There are a large number of people on rural/semi rural exchanges who did not get broadband at all until fairly recently - August 2004 in my case - and there are STILL some who cannot get it at all.

At my rural exchange ADSL was enabled in the autumn of 2005 and ADSL Max in 2006

Technically, you are correct, of course.

It's just that I get a little miffed with the "assumption" that what exists in the urban areas regarding broadband, is the 'norm'.

It isn't.

My daughter live in Liverpool, has had broadband since December 2000 and her exchange - Stoneycroft - is already 21CN WBC enabled - Feb this year; and the 21CN PTSN is targeted for Q2 2011, same as mine

I am not exactly in the 'backwoods' large village/small town - residental connections just under 3000 - businesses just under 200.

I'm not complaing about having broadband, as you say no comparison to dial - up; it's the assumptions that are often made - see my previous post.

Having said all that I have a superb ADSL Max connection. I'm 700m from the exchange ( as the crow flies) and about 900m of copper.

Sync 8128; SNR 12; and rock solid. The throughput is consistently 6 - 6.7 meg

(lowest I've seen was ~ 4 meg when cricket/wimbledon etc.were in full flow.)

A connection that some would kill for.
