Upstream attenuation fluctuating !

[link to this post]

HI,

Just wondered if my upstream attenuation should be fluctuating by 3-4dB ?

I have lost about 100k over the past few weeks and noticed that the upstream attenuation fluctuates from 35 - 39 !! this isn't a time of day thing it can fluctuate that much if i reboot the router in minutes! This is on adsl2 .... i cant tell on adsl1 as my router stops at 31.5..... i have never noticed this before but can't swear its never happend. My downstream fluctuates by 0.5dB and that i can understand but 4dB is rather alot!

Any suggestions greatly received.

TIA Dave

Hi

It could be a faulty filter or internal wiring, have you tried connecting at the test socket using a different filter in order to troubleshoot?

Also a failing power supply or a failing router/modem can start causing these sort of issues, so using a second router to test with if you have one is a good way to prove or disprove that.

Phil

Hi Phil,

I have a filtered faceplate and its plugged into that with no extensions. I do have a spare router so i will give that a go tonight when i get home from work and i'll try that in the test socket with a seperate filter.

Many thanks for your help

Dave
