Broadband Outages - A Pattern Emerging?

[link to this post]

I have had four or five outages since the end of June.

As far as I can recall they always begin on a Friday evening and are usually back within a few hours although it has carried over until Saturday on one occasion.

Demon deny all knowledge or any problems or maintenance but is there anywhere I can check what is happening as they are unwilling to investigate and I have been unable to contact BT directly on other matters so doubt I will have any more success here?

You could check your exchange status here http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/ but I'm doubtful your exchange has maintenance outages on a weekly basis.

Have you been 'upgraded' to ADSL 2+ ?

Is it a complete no-internet, or simply dropping out and taking a while to restart? Got any router logs? what kit are you using?

Not due for ADSL 2+ until 2010.

Broadband just disappears. Neither regular NetGear or stand by Linksys router can connect when it goes down.

Logs say nothing other than 'LCP down' or something similar.

Problems last from a couple of hours to around 14 hours.

Do you know if it looses sync? or just the 'logged in' part of the connect?

Your logs might show a resync.. and give the new rate that the router is synced at or like some routers, you might have two connection times - one for WAN uptime and one for Internet uptime.

Might be worth checking both after a fresh reboot to see if you a sync event - if so, your router will show that if the reconnects are due to a resync, which indicate that the problem is probably line related.

If they don't show during the 'outage' then it is likely something from the exchange towards the ISP (BT's network, your ISP's network etc).

This site is becoming of little use for information as many exchanges are months out of date, for example my one was last updated 12 Jun 09 (http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/?exchange=Oswestry&exact=741&plugin=vp).
I havent found another site so I dont know where to reliably find out exchange information now.
